The most recent studies I am aware of showed that among Americans:
* approximately 10% are pro-hunting
* slightly less than 10% are anti-hunting
That leaves 80% of Americans without a strong opinion on the matter, but that demographic is not very likely to search for and find this lens. Sorry, I don't have global stats.
Chances are you are here as one of the roughly 20% of Americans (or someone from another country with an opinion of the topic) who has an interest in this issue.
Which makes you exactly the kind of person I'm hoping to hear from.

The question is simple, but there are many reasons that people may choose from to explain their answer ... far too many to make this a simple poll with a manageable number of options.
Select your choice, but then please briefly tell the world why you feel the way you do.
For the sake of argument, in this case "hunting" refers to the legal harvest of managed game animals in the U.S. by certified hunters with valid licenses.
Are you anti-hunting?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byYes, I am anti-hunting.
No, I am not anti-hunting.
My choice is simple.
And I'm well aware that I am hated -- by some -- for this opinion.
However, I have many reasons for my stance, and like anyone on either side of a passionate debate, I feel I have logical, reasonable justification to believe what I do.
(Before you start screaming "murderer" at me, please understand that your vehicle has probably killed more animals than my gun ever will.)
I'll begin sharing my reasons for being pro-hunting below, and I will open up the Plexo for additions and voting by visitors.

Be considerate.
I've seen people become outright nasty when debating this issue.
It seems to bring out the worst in us all, on both sides.
Please show your fellow humans online the same respect you would show a stranger in public (we hope) ... smile and take a deep breath before posting if you are upset.
Reasons to be anti-hunting
What's fair is fair ... let me see the rationale behind your opinion.
Whatever your opinion
Stick to your convictions, but be sure they are the right ones because you took the time to learn both sides and didn't blindly follow the first shepherd to find you.

Still on the fence?
Not really for or against? That's okay.
I invite the remaining 80% -- if any have wandered in here out of curiosity -- to comment here. Or, any general comments from the community ... those are good too.
Thanks for visiting, and I'm grateful to all who control their urges to post negatively against those who believe differently than they do.

I don't hunt, but I've known lots of people who do. It's what we used to do for survival. Why start calling it immoral now? Posted May 12, 2008 |
