Info on Vintage and Antique Singer machines is difficult to find

I am not into sewing in any shape or fashion, but my husband has found many vintage and antique sewing machines for us to sell.  From my experience Singer is probably the premier brand in sewing machines and they have been manufacturing them since 1851, so I'd say they are the most collectible also.

I have gathered many useful links for you to find info about your vintage or antique Singer sewing machine.

I have an old hand crank sewing machine that I would like to find out some information about, however I do not know the brand name. I have not been able to locate any photos online that look like the machine I have.

There doesn't appear to be any numbers on the machine (unfortunately it was taken out of the table - which I do not have) the only words that were once on it, have been worn down and aren't readable. What I can make of it appears to say "Sew Wen Steinway (steinwey?)" but when I search that online, nothing comes up.

How could I go about finding out something about this particular sewing machine?

Also, I don't know where the serial number would be located on something such as this. Would it be in plain view or inside another part?

I have an 1879 singer treadle in great working shape. The problem is: it is missing the bobbin cover plate. I dont have a clue on how to find the correct part or if one can even be found. if anyone has an idea please email me barbiemeeks@yahoo.com and please punt in the subject line "1879" of I may not open it. Thanks for any help.
