The power of buying and selling at auction is really very simple. When the bidding stops and the hammer falls, the value of an item is set. The buyer, not the seller, sets the price. This simple distinction cuts through all the chitchat about what art, antiques and collectibles are really worth.

That's why we spotlight treasures through the lens of the auction camera. The emphasis is on today's auction values. Not yesterday's wishful thinking.

Up-to-date nuts and bolts collecting information you need gathered from over 130 auction houses around the world. Over 600 free auction articles currently available and more added each week.

-Actual auction prices, no figments of the imagination

    -Photography included with each article.

    -Reliable.

-Passing up treasures right under your nose?

-Concerned about buying a reproduction for the cost of the real thing?

-Can you really afford to sell a $5,000 first edition book for $1 at your yard sale?

    -A good read, too.

About Rosemary_McKittrick

For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by how things
show up in the culture, their role in history and their value in the
marketplace. I dig deep sometimes to uncover the story behind the
objects I write about and hopefully tell the story in a way that brings
them to life.

The evolution of culture shows up in the things we've made. If you
listen and look closely, the objects will often reveal their secrets.

I'm basically a storyteller. Auctions are the context.

Each week I highlight a different subject and auction house around the country.

I've spent much of my 20 year career working as an art and antique appraiser. For me, writing has been a natural outgrowth.

I'm co-author along with husband Michael of The Official Price Guide to Fine Art,
a 1000-page book published by Random House listing auction sale results
for over 50,000 works of art. I'm also co-author of four volumes of McKittrick's Art Price Guide.

I hold an M.A. degree from the University of Colorado and have
lectured and taught courses around the country in the art, antiques and
collectibles field.
