Consider Giving Antiques as Holiday or Wedding Gifts

Antiques are well-made objects of aesthetic or historical value. They are treasures that are cherished, and will continue to bring joy for years to come. Antiques are not only for the rich. Many people collect objects and furniture made in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. A great number of these are still affordable. Lately the 1950s style has come to be appreciated and is making a style comeback. The well made objects of the 1970s and 1980s are named vintage and are appreciated by many collectors.

How to Package the Antique or Vintage Object

If it is large such as a piece of furniture, just attach an attractive bow. A small object can be wrapped in tissue paper and put it in an attractive paper gift bag tied with a bow. Raffia tied around the handles of a brand new brown paper gift bag is also appropriate. An object can also be placed in a box and wrapped with appropriate giftwrap. When you give someone an antique or vintage object always add a card or small note with a full description of the object including the approximate year of origin, the place of origin, the maker or manufacturing company, the material, the pattern, and if possible a history of the past owner(s).

Below are 10 of the Many Reasons to give Antiques as Gifts

As you read my ten reasons, I hope you will agree that it makes sense. Everyone can collect and enjoy antiques. As a gift-giver, you may start someone on a new and satisfying interest, or you may add to an existing one.

Consider:
  1. Environmentally friendly with no carbon footprint
  2. Intrinsic value, aesthetic value, or historical value
  3. Will not be thrown out as garbage
  4. A memorable addition to a collection.
  5. May be the first of a valued collection
  6. Connection with history. Link to one's heritage or culture, or to another's heritage or culture
  7. A quest for immortality by reaching out to the past and future generations
  8. Brings comfort and reassurance
  9. Quality not mass-produced. Often unique
  10. Often less expensive and better quality than the modern equivalent.
