Excellent lens on LaVey. Many things canbe said about him, but I think there's no disputing the fact that he was a remarkable man and had a very unique insight and showmanship ability. He will be missed.

I'm right there with them, I agree with everything, until they blather on about casting spells and curses, then it's giggle and point time. I also don't like the egotistical attitude of satanist, mostly because the type of people who act like that are far FAR from being justified in their behavior but it has led me to researching ethical egoism. I find the debates of self-interest versus altruism to be absolutely interesting.

its a real thing but anton la vay is not...he is a psycho-guy who loves to fool around and make ppl angry and upset - and money of course... the real satanist you dont see openly...not yet...

I'd never heard of any of this. Some pretty freaky stuff. :)

I am a 'comfortable pagan' and I find the intensity of people like this quite scary but fascinating. Very interesting lens.

I like biography lenses -- great job of covering the salient points in the life of this interesting, individualistic fellow!

Interesting lens. Although I am not a member, CoS people are terribly fantastic. They simply believe in meritocracy and do no evil; oh, and do NOT believe in a devil or Satan. LaVey was a rebel leader and interesting person altogether.

That was just as interesting to read as this is lens is, Mark.
You just don't hear much about Anton Lavey these days.
  • DDWright Oct 8, 2010 @ 11:38 am | delete
thanks for the piece on LaVey...I became interested in him after talking to a friend who, like me, had read Crowley's bio...My friend volunteered that he had "dated" Lavey's daughter Karla while living in SF during the mid '60s--he said she hung with the Prankster's and was one weird individual...guess it was in the genes...

Although I am not a Satanist, I've read several of LaVey's books as well as been friends with several Satanists. A very interesting lens on yet another "controversial" character. I just wish you'd mentioned Togar!
  • Sami4u Oct 1, 2010 @ 8:53 pm | delete
    Hi,

Togar :) Still learning as I go. I'll add that on and update. I found some great pics of Togar with Tippi.

Awesome! There used to be video of Togar floating around; you might find it on YouTube. I'll check back to see your update!

Kudos on your lens! I agree, most people have such a false sense of Satanism. Especially when it comes to the philosophy in the terms of Anton LaVey. Many people actually believe that Satanist stand around in circles sacrificing children and virgins, when in actuality it is a teaching that focuses on living life to the fullest, without bringing harm to others. Without the restraints of religion in it's strictest sense. I've always been open minded to all religions, Satanism included. (Christianity too.) lol. Good job!

The first time I read The Satanic Bible, I felt like finally I'd "come home". I wish more people would read it as there's so much sense talked in it (the first parts anyway) - it's a philosophy that I adhere to in my daily life :)

    Hi,

I was wondering if this lens would ever see a comment. Thanks. :) It amazes me how the mere uttering of the word Satanism shocks people so.
