Festivals and Events in Nice

The best time to visit Nice is festival time! There are lots of great events to enjoy...here is our pick of the bunch...

Nice Jazz Festival

The Nice Jazz Festival is a huge annual event, which usually runs mid to late July every year. 45,000 jazz lovers and 500 musicians will meet in Nice to shar a mutual love of music.

The main event is held in Cimez Arenas and Gardens from 7pm-12 midnight inside 2,000 year old Roman amphitheatre but two other stages are set up to showcase a variety of blues, roots, soul, funk and more contemporary jazz.

With a day pass priced at 35 euros, and the 8 day festival pass at 179 euros, its no wonder this event is usually a sell-out. Book your accommodation in Nice well in advance!

Winter Carnival Mardi Gras in Nice

Nice's biggest annual festival is the Winter Carnival Mardi Gras. An eclectic, colourful explosion of colour, sound and dance while the streets come to life with concerts, parades, fireworks, street markets, and street theatre. Each year there is a theme based on politics, fantasy, culture and world events.

There are a series of scheduled themed parades- flowers, lights, and giant papier mache figures will march past a temporary bandstand on the Promendade de Anglais on colourful floats with dancers in brightly coloured costumes. There's streamers, confetti and balloons and the madness lasts for ten days straight.

You can buy tickets to sit in the bandstand for a good view, but you can also enjoy the parade for free before and after it reaches the temporary seating stand.

Don't miss the climax on the last night where you can enjoy a bonfire and fireworks spectacular in which the 'festival King' figure is set ablaze! A great event for young and old.
