Does your child have learning difficulties but no one knows why? #squidoo #ld #apd
We were lucky, or perhaps it was just our dogged determination not to accept the diagnosis that Lizzie's hearing was normal? We got the answer fairly quickly, but other families are not so lucky..How could such a bright child be struggling at school? Why was it that she was so much later to start talking than her older brother and sisters? And when she did start to talk, why was she misprounouncing words?
Why did she seem to ignore you when you spoke to her? No reaction, no look of defiance, just no looking at you when you were speaking to her.
Lizzie was living life in a bubble. She seemed to be partially deaf but certain noises made her cry. She would put her hands over her ears and she seemed to be in pain.
And she was having trouble learning to read.
But all that changed when we got the diagnosis - APD, Auditory Processing Disorder. This page tells Lizzie's story and it has a happy ending :)
