Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now is a masterpiece

Coppola released Apocalypse Now Redux in 2001, restoring an additional 49 minutes of footage that he reluctantly cut from the original. It's a bigger movie, but not necessarily a better one, because the original is a perfect film.

I think of Redux as a film for fans who would like a few more details of the trip up the river, however there is a scene of a formal dinner at a rubber plantation that has been owned for generations by a French family, which adds a few important details, concerning the history of the war, of which most people at the time of the war were, and to this day are, largely unaware.

If you haven't seen either film, see them both.

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap) - "Patton," "The Great Escape," and "Apocalypse Now" have justly earned a place among the greatest war movies ever made. These films capture the horror, the sacrifice -- and, yes, sometimes the excitement of battle.

Wow... those guys sure have changed... they almost don't look like the same people. Great lens, nice to learn little tidbits about some actors that have been around for so long.

Hi bob! I'm a fan of this Movie, I just love classic movies, but "Apocalypse Now" is special to me because some scene was filmed in my hometown - Baler, particularly in Reserva, a small barrio in our town. The exact place where they shot the famous line "i love the smell of napalm in the morning" was called "kagewad" (it's a River Delta) but was named "Charlie's Point" after Hollywood came to the barrio. This movie brings me to the past, I was able to see the beach where I grew up during 70's. You can see how it's look like now at my lens - http://www.squidoo.com/myhometown-baler
