Paul is actually the creator of Christianity as we know it today, His version survived when the brother of Jesus, James, was killed and Jerusalem subsequently destroyed in 70 AD. Paul was smart enough to spread his version to many cities where it continued to flicker in small embers until it caught fire. Then, the biggest break came in AD 325 when Constantine forced the Bishops to come up with a single version of Christianity (there were several at the time) and they chose, more or less, Paul's. His letters surviving mad a huge difference. And thus evolved Christianity.

I really enjoyed this lens. Paul is my favorite (next to Jesus). A servant of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ok, I'm a little red in the face about not doing as well as I should have on the quiz, but I enjoyed taking it anyway. (Just don't tell my Bible study group how poorly I did or I'm in big trouble!) ~ Thanks for sharing Paul's story and his amazing inspirational writings. =D

My favorite quote: "I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live yet not I, but Christ lives in me. And the life that I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me." (Galatians 2:20)

St Paul was a great apostle, though the heart of the Church is Mary, the Theotokos. Love the icon you chose as your intro photo, by the way. Great lens with lots of solid content.

Hmmmm. Who was the Light/Voice that put Saul on his knees, blinded him, and renamed him Paul? If not Jesus, then who? If Paul is not allowed to change and be saved, then pity on everyone. The redemption story is complete with Paul. The greatest of enemies of Jesus' followers becomes the biggest teacher and supporter of Jesus.

saint paul wasn't a direct apostle of jesus. he was against jesus. why should we believe him?
  • bravoatm Dec 22, 2009 @ 9:28 am | delete
I have to at least partically agree with you since Paul never knew/met Jesus, yet he takes over the movement, after Jesus' first replacement choice for the movement, brother James, dies over 30 years after Christ resurrects. I believe God had his reservations about Paul, and is why he left Paul with a thorn in his side? Paul's alleged mere vision of how christianity should be designed to offer gentiles eternal life is far different than Jesus' own direct messages to, Jewish believer of Abraham teachings (Old Testament) and Christ's own selected Christain replacement leader, James. Please advise why you believe James crucial role in maintaining Christ's movement momentum, and the fate of the other members of holy family (all of Jewish Heritage), is reduced and/or not mentioned in the New Testament?
  • GospelSmith Nov 19, 2010 @ 8:51 pm | delete
Jesus was too great a figure to be able to appoint a single successor who could continue the momentum of all that He said and did. James seems to have maintained a lot of Jesus' practical and pastoral ministry. John and Paul were also pastoral, but they further maintained the open-heaven lifestyle Jesus modeled and a lot of the theological truth Jesus proclaimed. This isn't mere dogma; it's the identity of Christ Himself. Those of us who fall in love with Jesus have to feed our hearts with the eternal truths about Him.

Paul (1) met the resurrected/glorified Jesus on the Damascus Road, and became a new man. He (2) focused on Christ crucified, risen, and ascended -- a message Jesus shared thrice with the twelve, who were unwilling to accept it -- until after His crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. Paul (3) was a pattern to people like you and me, who still have the privilege to become disciples of the glorified Jesus even if we live 2000 years too late to know Him as the carpenter's son from Nazareth.

Hey there again! Another great lens. I like when my pastor speaks of Paul. Right now we are reading the letter he wrote in the New Testiment of the Bible. I gave this lens another 5 stars, a favorite, and lensrolled. God bless :)

    Paul is great. Why?
"The good that I want, I don't do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want...
Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from this body of death?
That's be to God! Through Jesus Christ our Lord!..
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus." Rom. 7:19,24-25,8:1
So I love the Jesus that Paul preached. The One who forgave my sins.
    Great lens.

We just finished doing a 5 week study on Paul in our kids' chapel. He was a very special, dedicated person. I doubt that many of us would have kept preaching about Jesus if we went through just HALF of what he did.

Second only to Jesus? I think St Peter might have a thing or two to say about that :)

    Nice lens.
  • bravoatm Dec 22, 2009 @ 9:04 am | delete
I have to agree with you that Paul is not second to Jesus. Paul never even met/knew Jesus. Paul seemed to be a student of Peter. Paul, former Saul, and alleged unmentioned former killer of Christains, is forgiven by God, but the thorn in his side is never removed by God. Why is there nothing spoke of Jesus' first choice replacement, brother James, who lead Jesus' movement for the first 30 years after his death? Please advise as to why you think the first Christain movement leader after Jesus, and Jewish believer/Christain, brother James, is almost never accreditied in the new testament, in favor of Paul's alleged (as documented by Issac?) devine vision of where/how/why Christianity should expand, and his self-nomination to be the leader of Christain gentiles, without acknowledging original Jewish Christains like James, and the human natures of Christ known to members of the holy Family (entirely of Jewish heritage). Thanks in advance for helping me understand this issue.
