Are You A Breyer Horse Fan?

I adored Breyer Horses when I was growing up. I had a whole collection of them, and I still have several of my favorites today. I can't possibly part with them and the wonderful childhood memories they hold.

One of my very first Breyer horses was a black Appaloosa foal my mom bought for me from a toy seller at our local fair. I can still remember looking at the horse for several days through the glass of the display case he was in. The foal was very similar to the one pictured here, just a different color.

When my mom finally bought him for me I was sooo excited! I had several appaloosa horses in my Breyer collection and still have a few of them today.

Some of my favorites are the Breyer horses based on real famous horses. This one is based on DZ Weedo, a 1994 buckskin Appaloosa stallion, Weedo is a multiple national and world champion in Western riding and trail competitions. He's just an all around beautiful horse.

The History of Breyer Horses

Wild Blue Appaloosa Breyer horse setBreyer horses have been a horse collector favorite since 1950 when the first Breyer horses were created. The first horse was created as an adornment for a clock, but when the original deal didn't pan out the little horses became it's own piece and the rest is history.

Breyer horses today have devoted collectors. They even have a bi-monthly magazine devoted to these little horses and their collectors. Many start their collections like I did, when they're children, and continue into adulthood.

In addition to the handcrafted statues Breyer also has books, tack, plush animals, stables, Christmas ornaments and other gear to go with the line.

Out of a huge herd of Breyer models, I consider the Appaloosa's some of the absolute best. I've got the one they originally called Stud Spider, and Breezing Dixie the limited edition. Too bad they've gotten so darn expensive!

I like these too - My daughter has a couple Breyer Animals - they are big here in the country and they are sold in a lot of our local stores.

We love Breyer model horses and I have a thing for Appaloosas. My first horse was an Appy mix and I just loved him. Love your Breyer Appy selection. Great Review!

I have that little black appaloosa foal. I still have all of my breyers from childhood though they are stashed away in a box. I have a lot of fond memories of playing with them. :)
