Fauna Diversity in Indonesia

Well, maybe some people have known about Komodo. A huge lizard that looks like a dragon (So in English, it call Komodo dragon). But, you must know that there are many other animals which looks like mythical creatures that usually we just hear from legend or fairy tale. Those are diversity of fauna in Indonesia.

A little about Indonesia, Indonesia is an island nation that endowed with many unique type of floras and faunas. I still remember geography lesson that I learn in elementary school about distribution of animals in Indonesian Archipelago. Base on classification by Alfred Russell Wallace dan Max Wilhelm Carl, there are three categories of Indonesian animals: Asian type animals, Australian type animals and transitions type animals. Most of animals in this lens are transitions or Australians type (it means you can see that animals in middle or east Indonesian) and in its habitat, they are wild animals.

Currently, I live in west Indonesia. Some animals in this lens I see at the zoo, but others just from books.

Dutch Colonial then sending a squad of trained soldiers, and landed on the island of Komodo, East Nusa Tenggara. Apparently they find the dragons. Komodo are similar to the dragon paintings in the middle Ages. It is distinguished from the dragon, Komodo is not spewing flames.

The Mermaids

Dugong from Eastern Indonesian waters.

Do you ever hear the story of sailors who had seen a mermaid? The possibility is that mermaids are aquatic mammals known as Dugongs. This mammal can be found in shallow waters, especially the eastern Indonesian waters. This dugong does not have a human body. Dugong is a sea mammal-eating plant. Dugong has a tail that is exactly the same with mermaids.

Yes, the horn is similar.

No, the rhino have to diet.

WriterJanis says:

I think a unicorn would be much more graceful.

The animals mentioned above are not the mythical animals, they actually exist, but they are now threatened with extinction. If they become extinct, they will truly be a mythical animal that will only be a fairytale for our children and grandchildren.
