Apple announced today that it expects the iPhone battery to provide up to 8 hours of talk time or 6 hours of internet use. With this announcement, Apple hopes to lay to rest the speculation surrounding poor battery life of iPhone. The hype and buzz around the iPhone continues to grow by the day as the availability date approaches. Apple has announced June 29th, 2007 as the official market date for the iPhone. Many consumers are waiting to get their hands on the first generation of iPhones.

Along with the hype, certain consumers have expressed concerns about the durability of the product. To help allay some of these criticisms, Apple has made some last minute changes to the product. It has upgraded the top surface of the touch-screen to optical quality glass from plastic making it more durable and resistant to scratches. Today's announcement on improved battery life will also go a long way in convincing those resisting the iPhone charm. In addition to the talk time and internet use time, the iPhone battery will support up to 7 hours of video playback and 24 hours of audio playback. How's that for versatility?

Apple iPhone is definitely the most anticipated and talked about cell phone launched ever. Available exclusively through Cingular wireless, the phone comes in 2 models: 6 gigabyte and 8 gigabyte. In addition to all the cool phone features, both the models support multimedia content such as audio and video, internet browsing and picture taking.

Steve Jobs hopes to sell 10M handsets by end of 2008. With a goal that large and so much at stake, it is no wonder that Apple intently listens to the consumers and even changes the product to better appeal its customers.

Apple quotes 5 hours of battery life for talk or video, with a full 16 hours in music mode. The 4GB iPhone will go out the door in the US as a Cingular exclusive for $499 on a two-year contract, 8GB for $599. Ships Stateside in June, Europe in fourth quarter, Asia in 2008.

Reaction to the announcement has been mixed. Many Apple faithful were hoping for a 6th generation iPod rather than a $500-$600 touchscreen phone. I think that iPhone isn't a phone or an iPod. iPhone is a portable device, which combines three products - a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications with desktop-class email, web browsing, maps, and searching. In short, iPhone is pretty cool than any other portable devices. I am looking forwared to iPhone release.
