Apple iPad Capabilities: Understanding What the iPad CAN'T Do

Since the iPad was released there's been huge talk about the Apple iPad capabilities and who the iPad is really aimed at.

On the Left - Apple iPad Tablet (64GB, Wifi 3G): he best way to experience the web, email, photos, and video. Hands down.

The iPad can do a lot, and has been selling in huge numbers.

However, there are a few things that the iPad just can't do. Here's a quick breakdown.

What's Missing from the Apple iPad?

1) Multitasking

Multitasking is notably missing from the list of Apple iPad capabilities, and this is one omission that many have been extremely disappointed by. Although we were used to the lack of multitasking on the iPod Touch and iPhone, many expected a change to come with the iPad.

However, the iPad is designed more like a multimedia device in which one program should be played at a single time. Apple have also stated that they didn't include it as a way to help preserve battery life. However, other devices of a similar caliber do offer this feature.

2) No USB

The iPad is likened to a portable computer, however there are a number of noticeable differences including the fact that there are no USB or FireWire ports. You can only attach any accessories using the iPad connector, meaning you can only use accessories that were specifically designed for use with the iPad.

3) No Camera or SD Card Slot

The iPad doesn't include a camera at all, which many people can't understand. On top of this there is no SD card reader. This is pretty standard for other notebook computers.

4) No HDMI Out Option

If you want an option to watch any videos you've downloaded from the iTunes store, but on another device, then you can't do it from the iPad. There's no video out option.

5) No Flash

The omission of Flash from the list of Apple iPad Capabilities is one that has been widely criticized by a number of users. However, the good news is that certain facilities, such as YouTube, make use of faster alternatives to help you watch videos. The main drawback is that you won't be able to play Flash games.

6) No Physical Keyboard

The iPad relies on the touch screen keyboard, without any physical keyboard buttons, which some users may have a problem with. The size and shape of the iPad means that it'll be hard to type unless you can prop it up in a comfortable way.

Conclusion: Apple iPad capabilities are limited

As you can see, the Apple iPad capabilities are limited in many ways. However, it's important to remember that the iPad doesn't quite compete directly with any device currently out there.

Despite its limitations, the Apple operating system does have a number of positives that make it easy to use, not to mention stylish!

The iPad is still the hottest gadget out there, so it's up to you to decide whether to live with the shortcomings or not.
