Apple iPhone Mobile Phone

This is so nuts, I can't even get over it. Ebay policy forbids presales of hot items on their auction site, especially for items that are not available at all for pre-order. They routinely remove all auctions for the Apple iPhone and in fact I saw some auctions deleted as I was browsing the site.

This hasn't stopped certain Ebay entrepreneurs from cashing in on the frenzy for the iPhone however. Some rather ingenious marketers are making a killing selling iphone-related email addresses that they registered for free at Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail.

Check out the photo of the auction I screencapped below. When I first found the auction, it had six bids, an hour left in the auction and a high bid of about $15 bucks. By the time the auction ended, 43 bids and winning bid over $400. How freaking nuts do you have to be to bid on a free email address?



The best part is that Yahoo, Gmail and the like don't even allow their email addresses to be sold or transferred. It's in their terms of service. By rights though, Ebay should be ending these auctions just to protect people from their own stupidity, never mind the fact that these are illegal sales to begin with. The internet never ceases to amaze me.

The Apple iPhone is gearing up to be the hottest mobile phone since the release of Motorola's Razr and it hasn't even been released yet. The official release date for the iPhone is June 29th, 2007 at 6 p.m. I'm guessing that's 6 p.m. local time wherever you happen to live.

For the first 30 days, the Apple iPhone will only be available at Apple Stores and AT&T stores. It's a smart decision on Apple's part as it not only let's them in their communications partner, AT&T, maximize their cut of the revenues for the phone as many consumers will jump aboard this bandwagon right away, but it also allows Apple to increase the frenzy for the phone.

As I mentioned, for the first 30 days you'll only be able to buy the Apple iPhone from either the Apple Store, the Apple website or the AT&T store.

The 4GB model will cost $499.00 and the 8GB will sell for $599.00

Keep in mind that if you do buy the phone from Apple instead of AT&T, it will still require AT&T service as they have an exclusive arrangement with Apple. So you'll need to get out of your contract with another cellphone provider if you aren't with AT&T already.

Once the first 30 days of release has passed, the iPhone will be available from Amazon, buy.com, shop.com and MacMall.com.

I'm sure it will also be all over Ebay on the day of release since once the phone is sold to a customer, they are perfectly free to resell it.
