I love caramel apples. In Argentina there are vendors in every park or square, and even in the beach. We have them dipped in popcorn, so the corn sticks to the caramel coat. Yummy! Makes me want to take a walk to spot one of these vendors. We also have figs prepared in the same way, dipped in caramel and popcorn. No diet can resist!

P.S. I think using smaller apples is a good idea for EVERYONE! I always hate how most of the apple doesn't even have any caramel because they're so large. :)

I love caramel apples, well, mostly the caramel part! I am adamant about using a really good apple, though. I do not think "delicious" apples are that good. My favorite is "honey crisp". BTW, did you know that October 31st is Caramel Apple Day in the US?
  • ErHawkns7100 Oct 24, 2011 @ 12:36 pm | delete

I love them, and wanted to introduce them to my students here in Korea as a Halloween treat, but they just separated the caramel off and ate the two parts individually. :-( With the younger kids, I cut the apples into slices, since a whole apple would be too much for them.
  • djroll Oct 23, 2011 @ 8:50 pm | delete
Caramel apples are a great treat.
  • ScareYouDiva Oct 22, 2011 @ 7:35 am | delete
Nice lens, but have to admit I prefer the red candy apples - childhood memories.
  • Marelisa Sep 26, 2011 @ 4:32 pm | delete
I've never tried caramel candy apples; I don't why I've always been a little bit intimidated by them. They look kind of difficult to eat, and soooo decadent. But they look delicious, so someday I fully intend to eat one.
  • Euryale Sep 26, 2011 @ 9:18 pm | delete
I found my own intimidation was tied to the idea of having caramel all over my face, as they can be tricky to bite into. However, never be afraid to cut a caramel-covered apple up with a knife and take it one slice at a time. They're lovely that way!
  • selectshopping Sep 11, 2011 @ 10:44 pm | delete
I always wanted to know how to do this and now, after watching the video, I know. Thanks.

Thanks, Kim! The first early-season apples appeared at the Farmer's Market and it got me thinking of this lens again. It's almost boardwalk and summer fair/carnival season, two more great places to get candy apples!

What a fun lens! You might add a tip on how to cut candied apples --Just cut the apple in a grid pattern with the stick in the middle. You end up with 8 edible pieces and one piece with the core. This way you get apple and candy in every bite--plus way less mess!
  • Comfortdoc Sep 27, 2007 @ 2:30 pm | delete
Is there a 'healthy alternative'? Since my day job is teaching college nutrition, I am always on the look out for the healthier, fewer calorie options.
  • Euryale Sep 26, 2007 @ 1:09 pm | delete
I'd like to make some with a more tart apple this season myself, and also make them be slightly smaller apples so I can keep most of the caramel in my mouth and not on my face...LOL!
  • rms Sep 25, 2007 @ 12:57 pm | delete
I've been dreaming of having one of these for the last 2 days. Gotta make some. Yum!
