Here's My Opinion: Microsoft is Better
I think Microsoft is far superior to Apple. The only reason Apple has fans is because they are the "little guy." Microsoft is just another corporation people love to hate. Sure, PCs have more viruses, but that's only because their market share is so much higher. Besides, can you play this (insert new random software / game)? No, I didn't think so!
PCs are far easier (and cheaper) to upgrade as well. I can have the same speed of PC for around $800 as what a $2000 Apple computer costs. Why spend more? For the status symbol?

My favorite game is The Sims 3. It runs just fine on my Mac Mini. I find that the Mac is in general more user friendly, though I still keep a PC laptop because my old software is loaded onto it.
On the other hand, so far I have gotten much better overall performance from my Mac than from any PC that I've ever used, and I'm on a mini (with only 2 Gigs of DDR3 -- I need to go buy more!).

- Think of it this way: Microsoft is like the Budweiser of beer. Brewed for mass appeal and can fit in almost any situation. Apple is like a craft beer, so you pay a premium for the more attention the product receives. When Apple moved off PowerPC and on to Intel architecture however its the equivalent of their craft beer using the exact same recipe as the Budweiser beer. Only Apple still markets and tries to act like they are a unique snowflake craft beer.
