Grandma Ople's Apple Pie
Ingredients:1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
1/4 cup of water
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
8 granny smith apples - peeled, cored & sliced
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add water, white sugar and brown sugar, and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer.
2. Place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill with apples, mounded slightly. Cover with a lattice work of crust. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust. Pour slowly so that it does not run off.
3. Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F. Continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft.
Try these variations that other's enjoyed:
- Add a tsp of cinnamon, a dash of nutmeg and a tbsp of vanilla extract to the syrup prior to simmering (take 1 tbsp out of the water if adding vanilla)
- Save some of the syrup to glaze the top of the pie (bake the entire time at 350 to aviod the top being burnt if glazing)
- Place your 9x9 pan on top of a cookie sheet covered in foil in case it slightly bubbles over

Baked Apples
Need a quick desert and have some extra apples? Wash the apples and core them. Place the apples in a glass pan and put 1 tablespoon of butter in each apple. Add a pinch of cinnamon to each apple, a bit of sugar and a bit of brown sugar. Bake at 350 F until the inside of the apples become golden brown. Let cool and eat!I generally just make these for taste so I do not have exact ingredient amounts. It is quick and easy and sure to be a great snack!
