Apples To Apples Review

Apples to Apples is a fun and easy game to play. It's also a fast game, so you won't be bored.

In your Apples To Apples game you'll find two types of cards: things (nouns) and descriptions. The person who is the dealer for the round will put down a description card and then everyone else will give the dealer a noun card that is described best by the description card. After getting the cards, the dealer will mix them up before looking at them, and then choose the best card. The winner of the hand gets the description card, and then someone else is dealer. Play continues like this until a certain amount of time has passed or a certain number of rounds has been reached.

It may not sound like a lot of fun, but you haven't heard the Britney Spears story yet, which I will share below.

Apples to Apples, as I have mentioned above, is a lot of fun. I'd like to share with you our Britney Spears story and maybe you'll see how hilarious this game can be.

During our first game of Apples to Apples we discovered that often someone would throw in a noun opposite to the description, or a funny card, when they didn't have a noun that was close to the description. The funniest round in the history of our Apples To Apples play is what I call the Britney Spears round, which has lead to dozens of Britney Spears rounds since.

The description card's word was "Responsible". Most of us put in a card that said something like "teacher" or "Abraham Lincoln", but my dear husband didn't have a suitable word and chose to make a mockery of the word "responsible" by placing the card "Britney Spears" down in that round. We all died laughing, and my husband actually won the round!!! This was in the midst of all the Britney scandal and it was the funniest thing ever. Now we all use the Britney card whenever we can. She's been "responsible", "moral", and many other words that don't describe her at all during out game play.

As you can see we absolutely love this game. It can be fun, exciting, and sometimes a little naughty with the right people playing. This game is what you make of it.

Apples to Apples Junior is the version of the game we play most often. My 10 year old son loves to play, and for the adults, the junior version can be just as fun.

My son often struggles with vocabulary due to his hearing and speech difficulties, so we have adopted a new rule while we play. When my son looks at his hand he makes sure he knows all the words, and if he doesn't know what one is he can trade it out before the round starts. When he trades one out we explain the meaning to him before we proceed with game play. He learns while having fun, what could be better than that?

We get endless laughs and hours of quality family time with this game.
