Employing For A Passport In A Few Simple Approaches

Any citizens travelling outside of the United States needs a passport, regardless of their age, and that includes newborns and infants. Getting one is a rather simple process as long as you know what you need beforehand. There are certain rules that need to be followed as well as an assortment of different documents that you will need when applying for a new passport.

Application Requirements

This is one of the most important steps as you will need to provide all information required which will include your social security number. However, you are not to sign this until instructed to. If any information is missing on the application, you risk a delay or denial of your request. You can get applications at courthouses, post offices, and agencies like an expedited pasport services.

There are several ways to apply, either in person or through mail. However, you must apply in person if it is your first time, you are under age 16, or your previous one was issued when you were under age 16. For those who have had a lost, stolen, or damaged one, they will also need to apply in person as well as those who have not had one issued in more than 15 years.

You will need to bring two acceptable photographs and certain paperwork to prove that you are a citizen. Several different types of documents are acceptable as proof. For most, a certified birth certificate from the city, county or state of birth is all you need. However, a naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship is also accepted. Those with previous undamaged passports can also use that as proof of citizenship.

Along with your proof of citizenship, you will need a photo ID. As with the citizenship proof, several different forms of identification are acceptable. You can use a valid driver's license, current government ID, as well as a current military ID. An undamaged previously issued passport and naturalization certificates are also accepted.

A processing fee and an additional one for expedited processing is required. There is a processing fee for passports and depending on where you apply, there may also be other fees added onto that. In general, it takes 6 to 8 weeks for a passport to arrive, so it is highly recommended that you apply as soon as you know you'll need one or at least eight weeks before you need it. You may request to have the processing expedited for a quicker turnaround, but this is also an additional fee.

Certain individuals are able to apply through the mail but only if they don't fall into any category above where they must apply in person. Usually, renewing or legally changing your name can be done by mailing everything in yourself. There is still a processing fee included and you'll need to send that and your previously issued passport along with the application when you apply.

It is always a good idea when applying for United States passports to check with an agency or look online for anything new added to the procedures. This simple process can turn into a lot of red tape and frustration if you do not follow the rules and provide all the information and documents necessary through an expedited U.S. passport services. A certified birth certificate, two acceptable photos, and a current photo ID can have your passport in your hand in time for your next trip overseas.
