March's Birthstone: the Aquamarine

They called it the "Water of the Sea." (That's what the word "aquamarine" means.) The ancient Greeks believed it was sacred to Poseidon, and that it had spilled from the jewel boxes belonging to the sirens. Such a romantic backstory for such a subtle stone!

The aquamarine can range in color from a fairly deep blue-green to the fairest sky blue. It practically disappears when immersed in water, and the ancients believed that water treated in such a manner with the aquamarine could cure a host of ailments.

Today we admire it for its beauty. All those born in March are particularly entitled to wear the aquamarine, and it's lucky that we have so many beautiful jewelry selections to choose from. An aquamarine makes a particularly nice gift for a March birthday. (And I was born in March, so I know what I'm talking about.)

Aquamarine Bracelets

In general, I'm not much of a bracelet-wearer, but I might change my mind for this beauty.
22 genuine aquamarines in a classic sterling silver bracelet. Gorgeous!

Aquamarine Earrings

The design is "Calla Lily" and the effect is gorgeous. These stunning earrings are not, in fact, real aquamarines, but are actually cubic zirconia set in sterling silver.

Besides being extremely affordable, these earrings have gotten rave reviews from Amazon purchasers. The only complaint anyone seems to have is that the posts are a tad thick -- no good if the holes in your ears are very tight. But the Amazon customers loved everything else about them. You can read their reviews here.

Other Aquamarine Jewelry and Accessories

What a cutie! This froggy's body is made of a single aquamarine-blue cats eye stone, and his legs and head are bespeckled with crystal rhinestones. Awfully cute -- and you won't believe the price!
