Introduction to AdventureQuest Worlds

This lens is designed to help new players of AdventureQuest Worlds (AQW) get started. It is a very simple, basic guide. For those who played AQW already there is a more advanced lens, AdventureQuest Worlds MMO.

AdventureQuest Worlds is a massively multiplayer online game that is 100% browser based. The game is played on your Internet browser, so it requires no downloads or special software, only the latest Flash version. AQW allows interaction with other players. It is appropriate for all ages.

AQW is loosely based upon the fantasy world created by Artix Entertainment that include Adventure Quest, DragonFable, and MechQuest. It is the fourth major release by Artix Entertainment.

1: Creating an Account

Picking a name and class.

To start your AdventureQuest Worlds adventure, goto the sign-up page.

Enter your birthdate. If you are under the age of 13, you will be restricted to the safe servers.

Next, you will choose your gender and class. Don't worry about picking a class because you'll be able to change it later. Pick whatever looks good.

You'll pick a name next. This will be your character's name and your account name. It has to be unique, meaning nobody has it yet.

After entering your name and email address, you can play immediately. However, you won't be able to use chat unless you verify your email address.

2: Logging In

The differences between servers.

AQW Server ListGoto the AQWorlds login page. You now have to select a server. You do this every time you want to play.

There are several kinds of servers. The Moglin Safe Servers have chat turned off. Players can use canned chat. Players under 13 and over 100 are restricted to the Moglin Safe Servers.

The Standard Servers are for everyone 13 and older. Chat is turned on.

Members can use the Legendary Server and the Beta Test Server. Chat is fully enabled.

Servers with a high player count might be slow but players can find more help when more people are playing.

3: Settings Options

Choosing your preferences on chat, invites, and private messaging.

AQW Options PanelAfter picking a server, players log into Battleon, the capital city of the world. Now is a good time to pick personal settings.

On the bottom of the screen is a button with sprockets on it called the Option button. Players click this to set preferences.

Click the red circles to turn on options. A check mark will appear when an option is turned on.

Show pets allows you to see your pets or other people's pets. Seeing pets will slow down the game.

Party invites will let people ask you to join their party. If you don't want to play with other people, leave it off.

Friend invites will let other people invite you to be a friend. You can have up to 20 friends. If you want people to leave you alone, leave it off.

Visual quality can make the game go faster if you turn down the quality.

The Sound check box lets you turn off the sound. This is handy if you are playing the game at school :)

The other options can be explored after you are more familiar with the game.

4: Navigating Lore

The basics to getting around the world.

AQW World MapThere are several different ways to get around the world. You can walk places. You can also put the location name in the chat box to go right to an area.

The easiest way to get around is to use the map. At the bottom of the screen, on the right, is a button with a world on it. This is the map button.

Click it to open the map. There are several different regions in the world. Click a region to zoom in. You can go to an area by clicking on it.

5: Quests

Going on your first quests.

AQW Cleric Joy and some guy from the futureThere are two quests areas for new people. One is Noobshire and the other is Start Your Story. It might be easier to do Noobshire first. But that is up to you.

When you first log into the game you will be in the town of Battleon. On the first screen, on the left, is a lady with an exclamation point above her head. This is Cleric Joy.

Click the exclamation point and you will see Cleric Joy's menu. You can now choose which quest to do.

6: Starting and Finishing Quests

How to select and turn in quests.

AQW Quest ListWhen you go to the quest area you will see non-player characters (NPC) that have exclamation points above their heads. Click it to get a list of quests. You can do green quests.

Click on a quest name to see the details. The instructions will be displayed. Click the "Accept" button at the bottom of the quest details to start the quest. The quest should be listed as "In progress."

Now go do the quest. If the quest requires collecting items, you will see a notice each time you get an item and how many you have left. When you are done with a quest, you will hear a chime and see a notice that you are done.

When done, go back to the person who gave you the quest. Open up the quest list. The quest you finished should be listed as "Complete!" Click on the name of the quest. Then click the button that reads, "Turn in!"

7: Combat

How to fight your way to glory.

AQW New Hero FightingBefore fighting a monster, click on it once to see how strong it is. If you want to fight it, click on it again.

At the bottom of the screen are your attack buttons. The first one will use your weapon. The next are skills you use during fighting. Each time you use a skill you use up mana. Mana is listed by the blue bar on the top next to your face. When you run out you cannot use skills.

Red bar next to your name is health. If you run out, you die. When you die, you respawn after a few seconds and start again. You should rest between fights to stay alive.

8: Healing

Stay in the game.

AQW RestingAt the bottom of the screen is a picture of a red and blue heart. This is the Rest button. When you click it your character will sit down and slowly gain mana and health. It will not work if you are fighting a monster or if a monster is aggressive towards you.

If you rest and do not gain health and mana, leave the screen and then come back.

Another way to heal is to use healing spells. The healing classes have the best healing spells.

9: Terminology

Getting into the lingo of AQW.

Here is a list of some terms you should know:

  • AC: Adventure Coins. You buy them with real money.
  • Armor: A costume that changes your appearance.
  • Beta tester: One of the first people to play the game.
  • CP: Class points; you earn these to make your class rank higher.
