1: About AdventureQuest Worlds

Basic desription

AdventureQuest Worlds is free to play. No special software is needed because the game is played through any up to date Internet browser.

Membership upgrades include a subscription to the game and the purchase of coins, which are used to buy special items.

There are weekly events and releases, keeping the game fresh. Players choose a beginning class, but can change their class by purchasing and equipping class armor. Free players are more restricted than upgraded players. Upgraded players can access special quests, equip pets, and have access to new releases more quickly than free players.

AQW is interactive and has in-game chat. Players can form teams, friends lists, and whisper each other.

1.1.2: Getting Free Adventure Coins

There are three official ways players can get free Adventure Coins. The first is downloading and installing the Battle Bar which is a browser tool that gives you AC when you use the search function. The second way is to go to AExtras and sign up for surveys and special offers.

The Battle Bar is not only a search tool but also provides information about your AQW character, such as how many ACs you have and if you have any friends online. When you do six legitimate searches on the Battle Bar you will get one free Adventure Coin. You can get up to 15 per day. This tool works best on Internet Explorer.

AExtras awards players ACs when they sign up for offers and surveys through a third party. Most of these offers require personal information or that you buy something. Some have very limited requirements, such as signing up for an online game or getting on a mailing list. The amount of Adventure Coins you receive depends of the offer.

The last way to get free ACs is to visit Ballyhoo in Battleon. She'll sometimes give up to 5 coins for viewing adds.

1.2: Servers

Where you log in to play.

AQW Server ListThere are currently four kinds of servers for AdventureQuest Worlds.

The Moglin Safe servers have chat disabled and are suitable for all ages. Canned chat can be used on these servers. (Canned chat is the use of words and phrases from a list, like on Club Penguin.)

The Standard servers allow anyone to chat.

Finally, the Legendary servers are for members only and has open chat.

The Public Test Realm is used to test new features and is member-only.

2: Moving Around the Land

Alpha MapAlmost all areas in AdventureQuest Worlds can be accessed directly or through walking, joined more or less through a continuous environment. The quickest way to travel is through the map, which is located on the right side of the action bar.

Using /goto, /join, or /summon is the quickest way to move around.

Visit AQWorlds Beginners Guide for more information.

2.1: Goto, Join, and Summon

AQW Menu/summon is a command you use to summon a party member. A person must already be in your party to be summoned. If you can see the status bars of your party members on the left side of the screen, you can click their name then select "summon." If they want to be summoned, they'll come to you.

/join takes you to a room. At the bottom right of your screen is the name of your current room. If you type in "/join" and then the room name, you'll got there if the room is not already full.

join

/goto is a command you use to transport to another player. You use the dialog box at the bottom (the same one for chat). Type in "/goto" and then the player's name. If they're in your area, you'll go to them.

goto

3.1: Base Classes

AdventureQuest Worlds Alpha PirateAdventureQuest Worlds classes are still evolving. Right now, you purchase a class armor and wear it to use a class's abilities. Players level up classes, and gain new abilities, by completing quests and gaining class points while wearing the armor.

To change class, a player need only to don another class armor.

Right now there are not weapon limitations for classes.

The class level is called a Rank and is separate from the player's level, called a, well, just level.
  • Mage Upgrades to Sorceror. No change in skills; it's just cosmetic.
  • Preist Upgrades to Acolyte. Again, no real changes to skills. This page has hints on the healing classes.
  • Rogue Upgrades to Renegade with no change in skills.
  • Warrior Upgrades to Warlord with no change in skills.
  • Ninja Upgrades to Assassin with no change in skills.
  • Barber Has a barber pole above head. Same skill as Pirate or Rogue.
  • Paladin Requires rank 10 in Warrior/ Warlord and rank 10 in Healer/ Acolyte. Members only.
  • Berserker Found in upgrade shop. Members only.
  • Beast Warrior Found in upgrade shop. Same skills as warrior.
  • Pirate Armor is dropped after doing the Map Recovery quest of the Pirate quest chain.
  • Doom Knight A class for members-only.
  • Dragonlord To get the class a player has to upgrade to Dragon Amulet in DragonFable. It is one of the most powerful classes in the game. This page has more information about the Dragonlord class.

3.2: Class and Armor

AQW ArmorOkay, here's something that might be confusing. There are two kinds of armor in AdventureQuest Worlds. The first is called "Class." I've been careful in the previous modules to call this kind of armor "Class Armor." Class determines what kind of class you are, and thus what kind of skills you can use.

The second kind of armor is called "Armor." That's it, it's that simple. This kind of armor is superficial. It's just for looks, like a change of clothes. As of yet, it has not effect on the game.

When you go to purchase class armors, it will be listed "Class (Rank 1)" or whatever your rank in that armor is. The other kind of armor is listed as simply "Armor." Confused yet?

4.1: Pets

AQW ArmorThere are many pets in AdventureQuest Worlds, none of which fight. A few special pets open quests, like the Vorpal Bunny and Chuckles. Anyone who can see the pet can open the quest. Only members can have pets.

If you have pets turned off in the Option tab you won't be able to see your own pet. When you equip a pet and it is invisible, toggle "Show Pets" on.
^Page Top

4.2: Battle Pets

There are certain pets that can be summoned and will fight for a player. The Nulgath battle pets are one example. But the pets will only fight for classes that can use the.

Necromancer can summon a skeleton but also use Nulgath pets in battle. There are plans to add other classes that will be able to use battle pets in AQWorlds.

Right now the only battle pets are the Nulgath battle pets, the default skeleton, and two special rares released with the 11-11-11 event.

5: Enhancements

AQW Enhancement ButtonEnhancing items allows players to increase their stats. For the most part, the higher the enhancement level the better the character will be. There are different types to enhancements that focus on certain stats. For example, fighter enhancements focus on strength, rogue enhancements focus on dexterity.

6: Chat, Friends, and Parties

AQW Add Friend Since AQW is a true MMO, players can chat, form friends list, and create quest parties. Guilds will come later.

You can create a friend's list by clicking on a character's portrait. A small menu will appear with "Add Friend." To invite someone to a party, the menu has an "Invite" option. If you wish to leave a party you have joined, you click on your own portrait and choose "Leave Party."

If you want to be left alone for some soloing the Option button has check-boxes that makes it easy to manage invites. By un-checking party invites or friend invites, you can disable (ignore) those functions. People trying to invite you will get a busy signal.

You can also ignore whispers (private messages) by typing /pmoff in the text box.

7: Experience and Class Points

Leveling and Ranking

Experience Points (XP) are gained to level a player up. They are gained by fighting monsters and fulfilling quests.

Class Points (CP) are gained much the same way XP are gained. They are used to rank up class levels. The CP are put towards whatever class armor you are wearing.

On the gauge at the bottom of the control panel, the Class Points meter is on the left and the Experience Points meter is on the right.

8: Reputation

Gaining cred

AQW Character Reputation ListReputation Points (rep) are gained by finishing specific quests that reward Rep for specific organizations or areas. As rep is gained, new quests and items are opened up in the faction for which the reputation increases. Rep can be gained in:

Dwarfhold: Talk to Snowbeard at /join tavern to begin quests for Dwarfhold rep.

Evil: Gravelyn at Shadowfall has quests for Evil rep. Must belong to the Evil faction.

Good: King Alteon in Swordhaven has Good rep quests. Must belong to the Good faction.

Yokai: Fighting in the Dragon Koi Tournament increases Yokai rep.

Vampire and Lycan: Quests for increasing these stats are found in Darkovia.

Mythsong: Reputation in the land of singing and dancing.

Arcangrove: Gain rep from the magicians of Arcangrove- be prepared to kill a lot of Gorillaphants.

Sandsea: Reputation of 10 in Sandsea is needed to get the Ranger class.

Doomwood: Reputation of 10 needed to get the Necromancer class.

8.1: Tradeskills Reputations

When the fishing tradeskill was added in February, 2012, trade rep was also added. As a player successfully completes an action that results in tradeskill rank points, the player also receives tradeskill reputation points.

Just like with faction reputation, tradeskill reputation is needed to purchase items related to the tradeskill. For example, a player needs a fishing rep of five to purchase a floppy fish pet.

9: PvP

Battling other players live

There are two different PvP modes in AdventureQuest Worlds. The first is a team effort, 5v5, called Bludrut Brawl. In this mode the goal is to gain more points than the other team by defeating enemy monsters. The team with the most points wins.

The second is 1v1. The Doomwood Arena places players in a one on one duel. The goal is simple: take down the other player.

Access PvP through the PvP button in the lobby.

PvP Hints:

Use your best class and weapons. Now is not the time to experiment and goof around.
Buy a PvP necklace from Dumoose to boost your hit points.
Buy potions from Reens in Arcangrove (/join arcangrove) to give you an edge in combat.
Read the in-game PvP hints.

10: Potions and Scrolls

Gear up for the game.

Potions and ScrollsPotions and scrolls are special items that can give a player an edge in combat. They have to be equipped before fighting. There are several types, ranging from health potions to lightning scrolls. There are three ways to get potions and scrolls:

  • Buy them from Reens who has the biggest collection of potions and scrolls.
  • Do Reens' quests which give special potions.
  • Dumoose quest rewards in which a player can get a health potion or lightning scroll for one PvP combat trophy.
  • Bastet in Oasis has a small collection of food and drink for sale. Water of Life is the best!
See AdventureQuest Worlds Potions and Scrolls for more information about consumables.

11: Tradeskills

Fishing, cooking, smithing, enchanting

On February 17th, 2012, tradeskills were added. The first was fishing. Other tradeskills will follow.

Tradeskills allow players to rank up 30 levels and earn perks at certain ranks. These rewards can include special outfits, badges, and so on. Practical game bonuses will also be added, such as food that will boost strength or heal.

Although mems and non-mems can use tradeskills, mems will have special bonuses that will make it easier and faster to rank up.

The next tradeskill in the works is alchemy.

Bupers Camel

Tracking the Mystical Beast of Legend.

AQW Bupers Camel Cut n PasteBupers Camel is a mysterious and mythical beast that is reputed to live in the Sandsea desert. It is said that catching one will give you any wish. Or, it could be that you have to grant the camel a wish. One or the other. Nobody's really clear on that.

Currently, Bupers Camel can be spotted in a player's imagination or in a really funny hoax. One fun trick is to convince a newbie to go searching for Bupers Camel in Greenguard Forest. Another is to convince a newbie that Artix has been turned into the camel by Cysero by accident and catching it will give you Mod status.

A section about tradeskill rep has been added. Also, I'm working on a separate page just for the fishing tradeskill. After I've played it for a while I'll publish the page. Thanks!
