Arabic the Most Beautiful Script

Why Is Arabic the Most Beautiful Script?

Each script has its own beauty. It is true that the real beauty lies in the hands of the writer/calligrapher. While I don't know the art of Calligraphy - beauty does interest me a lot.

I think beauty is primarily about symmetry. Now - all scripts have some sort of symmetry. What makes Arabic the most beautiful script in my opinion is the frequency of curves (a curved line is more beautiful than a straight one), and the ability to lengthen/shorten a character.

More on the beauty of Arabic and other scripts later. I am posting a few pages of Arabic script written by me, about a decade earlier - this page created in the first quarter of 2011. There is a small issue - most of the scanned pages come out to be more than 1 MB and not uploading on Squidoo. I shrank one image - the second one - but that reduces the clarity. I'll try and find a way out.

Your Thoughts - On Beauty in Scripts

It is a nicely rhythmical script that is soothing to the eye. I only know of a few scripts so I am not sure which is most beautiful.

I think Arabic is beautiful. In fact, some ten years ago I learned how to write it! Now, I have forgotten a lot, but still like it!

The Arabic script looks quite alien to me. However, I agree that each script has its own beauty and requires understanding to appreciate it
  • ChrisDay Mar 31, 2011 @ 1:30 pm | delete
I fully agree that each has its own beauty, enhanced by the calligrapher. I wish that I could understand Arabic script - may be I have to look into it now. Somehow and perhaps illogically, not understanding it limits my appreciation of its beauty.
