Biography -

In 1996, Micheal Amott, the former guitarist of Carcass created a band that would change the death metal scene. The group formed with Micheal Amott of Halmstad, Sweden on guitar, his brother Christopher Amott also of Halmstad, Sweden on guitar and vocals, Daniel Erlandsson also of Sweden on drums, and Johan Liiva also of Sweden on vocals. They released their first album with vocalist Liiva which was titled Black Earth which featured the song "Bury Me an Angel".

In 1998, Arch Enemy's second album, Stigmata was released under Century Media. Bassist Martin Bengtsson and drummer Wildoer had joined the band for the recording of this album.

In 1999, the third album, called Burning Bridges was released. The album featured Sharlee D'Angelo who replaced Martin Bengtsson as the bassist and Daniel Erlandsson took back his permanent role on drums.

Johan Liiva was asked to leave the band and was replaced in 2001 by Angela Gossow, who was formerly the vocalist of the band Mistress. This marked a big change in the history of Arch Enemy. Gossow's first album, Wages of Sin showed the true complexity of Arch Enemy's potential as one of the best death metal bands around. This CD featured "Enemy Within" which makes a really good opening song at an Arch Enemy show.

Arch Enemy's fifth album, that was yet to be released in 2003, was a huge hit for the band. This album featured songs like "We Will Rise" or "End of the Line". Gossow's outstanding voice and talent really rubs off on this album.

Doomsday Machine was released in 2005 and it featured songs such as "Nemesis" and "My Apocolypse". In this year, Christopher Amott temporarily left the band to focus more on his personal life but then joined again in March of 2007.

Arch Enemy is currently playing in the Black Crusade Tour with Machine Head, Trivium, DragonForce and Shadows Fall. They have recently released a new album called Rise of the Tyrant that features the song "Blood on your Hands". Arch Enemy's powerful guitar and stunning vocals have made them one of the most popular metal bands today.
