Architectural design software. Chief Architect.
The software architecture of a program or computing system is the structure or structures of the system, which comprise software components, the externally visible properties of those components, and the relationships between them.
The term also refers to documentation of a system's software architecture.
Documenting software architecture facilitates communication between stakeholders, documents early decisions about high-level design, and allows reuse of design components and patterns between projects.

Architectural design software
Chief Architect has been around for more than 10 years and has earned a solid reputation among its target group. It's refreshing to review a product that has no pretense of being something "entirely new and revolutionary" and doesn't seek to do more than it's designed to do, which is serve an architectural drawing niche.
Chief Architect does what it's designed to do very well. It continues to build on a solid and mature foundation that doesn't require those who upgrade to learn a lot of new techniques or working methods to get the most out of it.
Chief Architect is aimed at the individual residential designer-it makes no provisions for larger projects that may require multiple users to work on the same project at the same time. The design is maintained in a single file that contains everything- all floors, foundations, and roofs, for example.
Chief Architect does allow multiple floor levels in the design file, with a maximum of ten floors. It includes some provisions for light commercial projects in addition to residential, such as blocks and symbols for office equipment.

Architectural Styles. Blackboard
A blackboard system is an artificial intelligence application based on the blackboard architectural model, where a common knowledge base, the "blackboard", is iteratively updated by a diverse group of specialist knowledge sources, starting with a problem specification and ending with a solution. Each knowledge source updates the blackboard with a partial solution when its internal constraints match the blackboard state. In this way, the specialists work together to solve the problem.
The blackboard model was originally designed as a way to handle complex, ill-defined problems, where the solution is the sum of its parts.

Architectural Styles. Distributed computing
Distributed computing is a field of computer science that studies distributed systems. A distributed system consists of multiple autonomous computers that communicate through a computer network. The computers interact with each other in order to achieve a common goal. A computer program that runs in a distributed system is called a distributed program, and distributed programming is the process of writing such programs.
Distributed computing also refers to the use of distributed systems to solve computational problems. In distributed computing, a problem is divided into many tasks, each of which is solved by one computer.

Architectural Styles. Event-driven architecture (EDA)
An event can be defined as "a significant change in state". For example, when a consumer purchases a car, the car's state changes from "for sale" to "sold".
A car dealer's system architecture may treat this state change as an event to be produced, published, detected and consumed by various applications within the architecture.
This architectural pattern may be applied by the design and implementation of applications and systems which transmit events among loosely coupled software components and services. An event-driven system typically consists of event emitters (or agents) and event consumers (or sinks). Sinks have the responsibility of applying a reaction as soon as an event is presented. The reaction might or might not be completely provided by the sink itself.
For instance, the sink might just have the responsibility to filter, transform and forward the event to another component or it might provide a self contained reaction to such event.
The first category of sinks can be based upon traditional components such as message oriented middleware while the second category of sinks (self contained online reaction) might require a more appropriate transactional executive framework.
Building applications and systems around an event-driven architecture allows these applications and systems to be constructed in a manner that facilitates more responsiveness, because event-driven systems are, by design, more normalized to unpredictable and asynchronous environments.
Event-driven architecture can complement service-oriented architecture (SOA) because services can be activated by triggers fired on incoming events. This paradigm is particularly useful whenever the sink does not provide any self-contained executive.
SOA 2.0 evolves the implications SOA and EDA architectures provide to a richer, more robust level by leveraging previously unknown causal relationships to form a new event pattern.
This new business intelligence pattern triggers further autonomous human or automated processing that adds exponential value to the enterprise by injecting value-added information into the recognized pattern which could not have been achieved previously.
Computing machinery and sensing devices (like sensors, actuators, controllers) can detect state changes of objects or conditions and create events which can then be processed by a service or system. Event triggers are conditions that result in the creation of an event

Architectural Styles. Implicit invocation
Implicit invocation is a term used by some authors for a style of software architecture in which a system is structured around event handling, using a form of callback. It is closely related to Inversion of control and what is known informally as the Hollywood Principle. The idea behind implicit invocation is that instead of invoking a procedure directly, a component can announce (or broadcast) one or more events. Other components in the system can register an interest in an event by associating a procedure with the event. When the event is announced the system itself invokes all of the procedures that have been registered for the event.
Thus an event announcement implicitly causes the invocation of procedures in other modules.

Architectural & Landscaping Software
There are nearly a thousand architectural and landscape software programs available today, ranging from high-end 3D CAD (Computer-Assisted Design) programs costing tens of thousands of dollars to simple home and garden planning programs for under $100. Some of these very inexpensive programs are useful for initial planning by a homeowner planning to turn the work over to a professional architect or landscape designer. Programs costing somewhat more can be used for planning purposes as well but are also capable of turning out project-ready documentation.
High-End Architectural Design Software
The one piece of design software found in nearly every architect's office in the country is some form of AutoCAD, made by Autodesk in a dizzying variety of levels and types. By today's standards, it isn't particularly user-friendly, and basic AutoCAD 2010, the current version, is still not quite a full-blown 3D program, although 3D functions are available. AutoCAD Light, adequate for a one-person architectural practice, costs less than $1,000 (all prices quoted in this article are as of Spring 2010).
Frank Gehry, the radically inventive California architect, uses his firm's own version of Catia-CADAM V4, a super-3D program that costs more than $15,000 per user, plus extensive training fees and associated costs, and that extends the computer process from initial design all the way through machining and fabrication.
Less Expensive 3D architectural software
Rhino 4.0 costs about 1/20th of Catia-CADAM and provides a lot of the same 3D functionality. Sketch-Up is a unique computer-design program that also costs well under $1,000 (and a version with about 90% of the functionality is free), and allows an inexperienced user to begin designing in three dimensions in a matter of minutes. Users have access to a huge and ever-growing user generated library of textures, materials and design elements, including landscape elements. In this sense, Sketch-Up is also a 3D landscape design program. While Sketch-Up doesn't generate construction documents, which these other programs do, it is easy to export a Sketch-Up design into a conventional architectural program and to generate construction documents from there.
Inexpensive or Free Architectural Design Programs
Popular, low-end architectural design programs allow a homeowner to do preliminary conceptual designs with comparatively little training. In a pinch, a determined designer could use most of these programs to generate construction documents. Punch! Software has several programs ranging from around $250 to $50 and with varying degrees of 3D functionality; most are available for Mac or PC. MacDraft, which costs around $300, started as a very low-end Apple design program (and is still for Macs only) but is now in many ways as useful as AutoCAD and far easier to learn; it will directly output the DXF or DWG files used in AutoCAD. Home Plan Pro costs less than $50 and allows a user with no computer design experience to generate house plans, but it is available only for PCs. HGTV and Better Homes and Gardens both sell several versions of inexpensive software for home and/or landscape design.
Higher-End Landscape Design Programs
Even higher-end landscape design programs cost far less than their architectural design counterparts. Structure Studios offers a very detailed 3D Landscape Design program for a $1,700 per year membership fee and a pool design program for just less than $1,000 per year. Realtime Landscaping offers a feature-rich program for about $250 that generates and outputs 2D and 3D and allows the user to "walk around" her design in real-time, a particularly valuable function for newer users who may have trouble visually how a particular design "feels" when you're actually in it. Less expensive versions are available.
Inexpensive or Free Landscape Design Programs
Better Homes and Gardens Landscape and Deck Designer 8.0 costs as little as $50 and is a good basic program that's easy to learn; for PC only. Garden Planner 2.4 is even more basic but has an easy to use drag-and-drop format for under $20, also for PC only. Sketch-Up can also be used for landscape design, is fully 3D, free and available for PC and Mac.
3D Architectural Design Careers

Architect
Architects work for firms or on their own and take contracts to design or renovate buildings or parts of buildings. Not too long ago, architects drew floor plans and elevation drawings by hand or built models of their buildings using wood, cardboard or other materials. Now, architects rely heavily on 3D architectural design software, which allows them to render 3D versions of their designs easily. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median (the midpoint salary, with half the salaries higher and half lower) annual salary for architects in 2008 -- was $70,320.
Interior Designer
Interior designers, like architects, design spaces. Unlike architects, interior designers concentrate on the inside of the building after it is built or renovated. With 3D architectural software, interior designers can build 3D representations of the rooms they are working on, to help their customers visualize the proposed design. Although not all interior designers use 3D architectural software to the extent that architects do, some interior designers benefit greatly from not having to draw out their plans, a project which can take a lot of time an effort which the software cuts out on. According to the BLS, the median salary in 2008 for interior was $44,950 a year.
Drafter
Drafters prepare technical drawing for architects, manufacturers, and other industries. Sometimes drafters work on designs of their own, and other times they simply reproduce someone else's design. Like architects, drafters used to rely heavily on pencil, paper, and other architectural drafting tools such as scale rulers, and T-squares. Now, drafters, like architects, use 3D architectural design software. According to the BLS, the yearly median salary in 2008 for drafters was $44,490.
