Back Issues of Progressive Architecture

I'm selling off my personal collection of architectural magazines. I've posted them for sale on eBay but wanted a chance to say goodbye to them here.

These are magazines that I subscribed to in the 1980s. I have hung on to these back issues for a long time and it's still a little difficult to let them go. Some might say I should throw them out, put them in the recycle bin, or donate them to a library. For the most part, they are all in good or very good condition. They have spent many, many years on my bookshelves in my house before I transferred them to our outdoor storage shed.

I'm hoping that they will go to a good home with someone who appreciates art and architecture.

What do you do with your magazines?

Do you save your magazines, like me, or do you dispose of them somehow?

Back issues of Progressive Architecture

1980s and 1990s

I have a lot of Progressive Architecture magazinesI'm just starting to list my architecture magazines for sale on eBay. It takes a long time because I want to include a good description. I started with Progressive Architecture.

First, I take a photo of the cover and upload it to my computer.
Second, I re-type the magazines table of contents.
Third, I look through the magazine to see if there's something more that belongs in the description.
Fourth, I put it on eBay.

It's a long process and I just hope it's worth it.

I own most issues for the years 1982, 1983, 1984, and 1994. I own all issues for the years 1985 through 1993 inclusive.

Writing the Description

I'm writing the description of each magazine by re-typing the table of contents. I thought it would just be another time-consuming chore that may or may not pay off. As it turns out, it's become a good way for me to look at the magazine again in more detail...one more review before I let it go. It's a good way to say goodbye.

How long does this take?

  1. Retype the table of contents. 5 mins
  2. Look through every page add projects and firms which weren't in the TOC. 15-20mins
  3. Put the listing on eBay, revise and revise. 30mins
  4. Add the listing on this Squidoo page. 3 mins

Roughly 58 minutes per issue.

I have some magazines I'm attached to...parting with them would be a good idea.
