Are GHD the Best Hair Straighteners Available Today?

Ranked #21,842 in Fashion & Beauty, #476,416 overall

GHD

GHD are by far one of the most well known brands of hair straighteners around today. What is it about them that make them just so sought after? GHD were one of the first if not the first straighteners to bring us ceramic coated plates. From the time they were introduced their popularity has grown with each passing year. GHD have been up for and won many awards for their hair straighteners.

GHD straighteners though do not come with any fancy frills. No extra ionic steam or built in micro conditioners. So what are their straighteners all about? GHD have kept designs to a minimum with 3 models to choose from. I think this in itself is a bonus as you know what plate width you want for your hair, but don't have to worry about if they have this extra or that built in. GHD have also made some awesome limited edition that are fantastic for presents as you do get some extra goodies with them like bags and hair accessories.

Fake GHD

GHD bohoBecause of the popularity of GHD and the fact that they are not cheap hair straighteners, many a fake copy are in circulation these days. GHD themselves are helping to combat fraud by having a webpage where you can check out if the retailer you are buying from is authorised by GHD. You can also register you serial number so GHD can confirm they are genuine. Although if you have already bought them and they turn out not to be genuine GHD you may have hassle trying to get your money back. To be safe I would always buy from an on-line retailer you trust. Just use common sense, you aren't going to get a genuine GHD straightener a few pounds.

Temperature

GHD'S do not come with any form of temperature control that you can manually adjust. There are loads of hair straighteners around today where you can increase or decrease the temperature. However with the GHD mark 4 model the temperature will only reach a maximum of 180 degrees Celsius. Nearly all hair types will not need any higher a temperature than this to make is straight. So whereas some other brands may offer up to 230 degrees Celsius in heat, in the long run this will be drying out your hair more and damaging it when it's not needed.

Plates

GHD have a ceramic coated plate on all their straighteners. Ceramic is widely used in hair straighteners as it will maintain an even heat spread across the plates. It is also strong and naturally produces negative ions. Pure ceramic plates are not used in GHD straighteners as pure ceramic is easily damage when the plates are clapped together even causing the plates to crack altogether. GHD do use a quality ceramic that is applied in the correct way. Fine even layers are cooked onto the plate base over and over again to give a finish that is going to last. The heating elements used under the plates are also advanced to ensure the heat spread is even and maintained thought-out use.

Features

GHD Straighteners do offer some of the more commonly found features on hair straighteners today. Like the automatic shut off feature for the forgetful. Leave these straighteners unattended for more than 30 minutes and they will auto shut down. Being able to travel with hair straighteners is also something many of would require and GHD also provide that with universal voltage. With the new rounder barrel on the mark 4 version creating new styles is also achievable. With curls making a comeback in hair fashion so has the straightener adapted. Now by turning the plates as you glide them through the hair you will achieve beautiful soft curls.
