Are Guardian Angels Real?

Every now and then life doesn't quite turn out the way that you expect it to:

I came home one day to find that the person I trusted most in the world had betrayed me. It was two weeks before our anniversary.

When I confronted him, he just smiled, then turned, and walked away. If I had been healthy perhaps it would have been easier to deal with. I would have had more strength, but instead I had none, and his betrayal devastated me. Everything that I believed in seemed to disappear along with my trust. My dreams, my hopes, my future, all shattered, there was just nothingness.

I walked into my house and called my daughter. I told her I was leaving him and she said she would be there as soon as she could. That meant about an hour and a half of solitude and an hour and a half of trying to get myself under control. At this point in time I had absolutely no reason to continue to live. I couldn't trust myself to be alone, so I called my sister who lived 12 hours away just so I would have someone to talk to, until I regained some degree of sanity. I told her that I would be going back to our hometown.

After I hung up the phone, I turned, and I looked around the house. It all looked so wrong. The pictures hanging on the wall that were once testaments of our happy home were now screaming at me. It all now seemed like such a mockery of what should or could have been. My crochet half finished, sitting on the table by my rocker waiting to be finished, it never would be.

That is about when the rage hit me. Maybe anger is the body's defense against that degree of emotional pain?

I grabbed a plant from the hallway table and threw it skittering across the floor into the living room. The dirt that spattered everywhere seemed to fit in with what was left of our world. I grabbed a picture from the wall and threw it in the general direction of the remnants of the plant and it just continued from there. It just seemed right when everything else in my world was just so wrong.

I didn't hear when my daughter arrived or when she entered the house, I just heard her surprised voice asking, "Mom, what are you doing?"

"I'm destroying the place, does it matter?", I defiantly replied. My daughter being the source of comfort and support that she has always been replied,"Can I help?".

This surprised me so I just nodded yes.

She opened a cupboard door, and after asking if I wanted to keep them, she began winging plates across the kitchen. I went back to my mindless work in the living room.

Gosh only knows how long my daughter and I worked at our madness. When you are in this state of mind time stands still. But a prick coming up from the bottom of my shoe is what made the insanity stop. I removed my shoe and looked at the sole to see what had come through it. There stuck in the bottom of my shoe was a tiny Guardian Angel pin. I stared at that thing for maybe 5 minutes which in my current state of mind was forever.

Then I told my daughter that everything was okay. I said, "that's enough", and then I started to clean up.

After my daughter left I went to bed. I don't know how long I slept, but when I awoke I packed my truck, and then drove the 12 hours to my home town and my new life.

I'm sure that most of you have heard the joke that a true friend isn't the one that bails you out of jail but is instead the friend sitting beside you saying, "We sure messed up this time."

Well sometimes angels are like that. Even when you are acting crazy they let you think that you and everything that you do is still well within the boundaries of acceptability, and this gets you through, till everything in your world really is once more back within the boundaries of acceptability.

When I arrived back in my home town I went to my sister's home. She greeted me with a big hug and said that she was so glad that I was okay.

Later as she and I sipped coffee we discussed that ill fated night and we came to an astonishing conclusion. I told her about finding the Guardian Angel pin in my shoe and how it had calmed me.

She told me that after I had hung up from speaking to her on the phone that she had left on a preplanned business trip. She said that she had prayed that she could give me one of her Guardian Angels because she had so many and I seemed to have none.

To this day I truly believe that my sister was successful that night in sending me an Angel to help me through.

My ex-love and I had two Guardian Angel pins in our home that had been given to us as gifts. Mine was still attached to an evening gown, and I had looked that night at his, it was still pinned to a calendar on our wall when I walked out the door.

A third Guardian Angel pin, the one that I had pulled from my shoe, I put in my coat pocket that night........

A lucky penny found on the sidewalk can be a world of dreams to a young child. Although most grown ups usually won't admit it, that little found coin means something special to them too.

Remission! I suddenly felt like superwoman, even steroids had not been able to give me the strength that being "normal" now gave me. The unbearable pain that I had suffered for the previous 6 years was gone, my mind was brilliantly clear and I could think again. I could run again, bend again, I had stamina again and I could play again. Best of all I looked like me again.

The human body is capable of curing itself. There have been hints of the body's extraordinary healing power throughout history. Spontaneous remissions, people who suddenly walk or see again, these miracles have happened in the past and they can definitely occur again in the future. We all have the power within ourselves.
