Are Social Workers Useless In The UK?

I May Have A Disliking To Social Workers In General But After All The Mistakes You See, How Can Anyone Trust Them?

Some act without thinking about the consequences, making the whole system a huge failure and this needs to change fast. Nothing ever happens to the social worker who is negligent. I must admit some Social Workers do work hard to protect children, but when do you see that on the News? Never!
Sure there must be a few good social workers about somewhere but not enough! These people happen to be doing a lousy job whenever caring parents feel under scrutiny immediately after an accident. Yet they fail to give protection to those who seem to genuinely need it and Die under the noses of the social worker! (take virtually any latest paper story this happens far to often) If these people happen to be in any other job they'd be fired!!

And How Hard Is It To Get Into This Work?

Why is it so hard get into this job?

You need a Previously Certificate in Social Service (CSS) and the Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (CQSW) were the qualifications that were undertaken. Whilst these, alongside the Diploma in Social Work (DipSW) are still recognised qualifications for those returning to the workplace, new students will now undertake the aforementioned academic degree with integrated work placements. As you might expect, their salary can depend on experience and qualifications. However generally they can earn just under £20,000 up to £29,000. Management roles of social workers will earn you up to £40,000, with senior management roles earning beyond £50,000 for a 37 hour week. NOT BAD!!!!

Five-Year-Old Stabbed 52 Times By Mother Was 'Let Down' By The Social Workers!

Here they fail once again!

A five-year-old girl who was stabbed 52 times by her mother in a ritualistic-style killing was let down by the health service, a report has said.
Aisling Murray, who had paranoid schizophrenia, killed Chloe Fahey at their home in Stretford in June 2003.
The report, commissioned by NHS North West in 2005, said that the care of the family was "sadly lacking" but Chloe's death could not have been prevented.

We All Want To Help With Child Abuse!

Report Reveals Up To 42 Children Died Last Year Of Child Abuse Under Social Services Care.

As many as 42 children died last year while under the care of the social workers, a shocking report reveals today.

Dozens more were physically and sexually abused because of failings by social services and other agencies.
Care watchdog Ofsted found cases which resulted in youngsters being battered, starved and even drowned. Inspectors say staff are too often governed by the 'rule of optimism' and accept at face value what family members tell them. In the process they lose sight of the needs of the child.
Ofsted assessed 147 serious case reviews between April 2009 and March 2010. These are triggered after the death or serious injury of a child where abuse or neglect is suspected. Some 194 children were the subject of the review - 90 had died and 104 had been subjected to physical abuse or long-term neglect. Most were aged under five.
Two thirds of these children - 119 - were known to the social services. Of these, 43 died.
It just will go on and on, just close to my son's school, there's a family that need attention so badly, I have seen the father push and kick the kids on the way in to the house, was painful for me to watch, he smacked one of the kids on the back of the head so hard that the child fell straight forward. Yes... it was reported, but again nothing was done about it. So far they had a visit from the social services who were in shock how the house looked, the social worker told them they should open some windows and curtains as the house was full of smoke and the kids need fresh air, they also told them to let the kids out as it was summer holiday and they never left that dark house. But these social services left the kids there to suffer some more, this made me so furious. I actually know a girl who is a midwife, in the past her kids were taken away from her for neglect by social services, but they gave them back not long after, I will never understand why because the mother drinks so much she can't even remember the next day who put her to bed. Her little girl cries in shame outside pubs, this goes on all the time. She works delivering babies at her local hospital, always hangover and a mess but there she is, taking life into her hands, lets hope someone don't pay the price for trusting her. Why did they gave her the kids back to her again, why don't they check to see what she is doing to the kids?

Drug Addict's Baby Died Of Neglect - Despite 47 Visits In 50 Days From Social Services

Baby died after social services ignored neighbour's warnings

ImageHost.orgStephanie Horrocks, 27, and her lover Mark McAndrew, 33.
They were jailed for child cruelty following their son Perrin's death from bronchopneumonia, but Horrocks died of a stroke four days later .

Neighbours reported seeing the "pasty" and "undernourished" faces of her two other young children pressed up against the window pleading to be let out, and said Perrin was so underweight he looked like a "doll".

Yet despite widespread concern about the family, the youngster was left to die by the social workers, baby died of a chest infection brought on by malnutrition and dehydration.

The inquest heard that Perrin was allowed to stay with his mother even though she had a previous conviction for neglecting an older child.
His natural father died in a car crash shortly after the boy was born.

Medical staff failed to tell social workers or of evidence she was using drugs and police did not pass on information about her working as a prostitute.
The child welfare agency Cafcas should have appointed a guardian to carry out an assessment but had such a backlog of work that it defied a court order to do so.

It is understood no one was sacked or even disciplined after Perrin's death, although it is thought some staff were offered re-training.
The three-day inquest at Plymouth Crown Court heard that neighbours became increasingly worried for Perrin after screaming, swearing and crying could be heard in the flat.

In January 2002, Perrin became increasingly ill from a chest infection and Horrocks was told to take him to hospital but refused claiming "she had other things to do".

Over the next six months PerrImageHost.orgin's health deteriorated rapidly. Neighbour Janet Pay said: "Perrin always looked ill and lifeless.
He looked like a doll. I contacted social workers and the police on several occasions and got no reply."

Coroner Nigel Meadows recorded a verdict of natural causes "in which neglect contributed".
He found that Perrin died because Horrocks and McAndrew ignored pleas from friends to take him to hospital when he became seriously ill.

They did not call an ambulance until he had stopped breathing by which time it was too late to revive him.
Despite the repeated missed chances to rescue Perrin before he died in July 2002, Mr Meadows did not apportion any blame to social services.
He said: "It seems that these days social workers, health visitors and those in the caring professions, when dealing with families like this, can be damned if they do and damned if they don't.

"If they take pre-emptive action and something goes wrong they can be open to public vilification but if they don't act and something untoward happens they suffer the same fate.
But he added: "Lessons have been learned from this case here and nationally and one always hopes this sort of case will never occur again.""

This Was A Grandmother's Cherished Photograph Of Baby P!

And one which should have saved the toddler's life.

His injuries had been extremely severe he had to be admitted to hospital for two days exactly where doctors, nurses as well as social workers each and every one witnessed them.
Unbelievably, however, authorities just weren't informed, despite the fact that they'd brought out an investigation against the mother for assault.
The studio photograph, exhibiting the actual youngster dressed up as a street urchin, raises questions regarding whether investigators could possibly have charged the 27-year-old mother back then.
Four individual investigations seem to have been brought out into exactly how Baby P had been time after time returned to his family home regardless of several months of physical abuse at the actual hands of his own mother, her 32-year-old boyfriend and also their lodger Jason Owen.

The child been through even more than 50 personal injuries which includes eight broken ribs along with a snapped spine and then his mother had been arrested twice on suspicion of assaulting him.
However the Crown Prosecution Service informed police to drop the actual assault investigation less than a 1 week just before his death for insufficient evidence.

Up to four children die every week in England from abuse or neglect, a damning report by Ofsted has revealed in the wake of the death of Baby P.

The report says 282 vulnerable children died in the 17 months to August, with 136 more seriously hurt.

Two thirds of the victims were less than a year old.

The figures dwarf previous estimates by children's charities which said one vulnerable child died from abuse or neglect per week.

Unveiling the report today, Ofsted's chief inspector of schools warned that councils are failing to learn from their mistakes, and there were no guarantees that more infants would not be left to die by the social services.

How Can Someone Hurt A Child?

Child Abuse Will Keep Going On, I Just Wish I Could Do Something To Help!

Child Abuse Has To Stop, Right Now! They Have To Do Better!

Are we so frightened of "offending" another person that we simply cannot do what's right whenever we witness or even hear anything at all inappropriate? Perhaps it might have changed the actual outcome, but I'm not sure. I understand that it's not possible to help save each and every child coming from abuse or neglect, still this really is absolutely revolting the way in which people turned to look the other way over and over and over.

I can't say that it is an excellent lens, but I will say that you have pick a right topic to open eyes of other humans. Besides, I think child abuse is a horrible and insane crime, not only against the law, but against the humanity. Even animals are better than humans, who doesn't hurt their and others babies animals of the their own type.

I think most social workers have come from comfortable, loving families and don't understand how hard life can be. They have good intentions but life has not prepared them for what they will meet.

Excellent lens. I think Social Workers do a fine job in demanding, complex situations. Everyone seems to think they can do better, but how many have ever had to face their responsibilities for real, not many I think.

Your lens resonates! I "retired" from the profession of Social Work, here in the USA, shortly after getting my state license that required a Masters of Social Work (MSW, graduate degree) plus 3000 supervised hours and passing an exam given by the state (which I did with a high score), so I am technically a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I keep the credential current to demonstrate my level of education and training, but I gave up practicing as a professional social worker after I realized it was almost impossible NOT to do more harm than good amid the work situations I found myself immersed in. I was able to do far better "social work" before I became, officially, a social worker and again, even better social work, ever since I quit the profession. (I DO tip my hat to those who CAN be creative and healing in the job.)
