Just heard that Glenn Beck is moving to Texas. Guess that means he'll soon my my almost neighbor.
  • quirkyoot Jan 8, 2011 @ 8:26 am | delete
That Beck's intention is to shine lights in the dark corners of things that people believe is admirable. That he does it by removing the light from other well-lit corners is foolish. That people read his words is a good thing. That they believe them without doing their own research is foolish. Glenn Beck is - for the time being - a success at one thing: self-promotion. He has managed to procure a pinnacle for himself which brings him in a very nice life, thank you very much.
We should be wary of anybody who engenders such vociferous opinion (support or not) from those who are unwilling to engage in reasoned argument and discussion.
That is the true danger in arguing with idiots. They appear on both sides of the fence, and Beck is one of them.

OMG, can one ever get ahead when "Arguing With Idiots?" I don't think so -- it sounds like a losing battle to me.

Haven't read this book, but I love Glenn. He drives liberals crazy, so must be doing something right!

Loved this lens! Looking forward to reading more of your lenses later today. Going to show my dad..he's a huge Glen Beck fan. Hopefully he'll want to join the debate about the book. :) Keep it up! People need to know what's really going on with America!

Great lens, blessed by a squidangel :) Just wanted to add that from a Dutch perspective, this Glenn Beck person does sound like an absolute nut.

FUNNY!! Check out my Arguing with Idiots Finalist Entry - It goes after mind-numb college students who vote for Obama just because he sends them text messages!

Sorry to be late again. It takes a bit of time getting around. I'm sure you understand. Blessed by an Angel.

I don't do much reading but his show is unusual and eye-opening! Nice lens on the new and controversial book. I enjoyed "Dani's" comment in the module above and it seems that Beck is encouraging young people to be informed and have their own opinions as well.

Funny you should mention that, since his entire book is essentially a straw man attack. Few people actually make the arguments he refutes. They are broadly similar to the arguments of liberals, but missing key points. You also might want to look up what a straw man fallacy is. While arguing that his book is wrong because he makes a lot of money is in fact a fallacy, its not a straw man fallacy, it's an "attacking the motive" fallacy.

"The new debate him on the issues."

What does this statement even mean? What is this "new debate" you speak of?

I am so confused, how can I debate you if you don't construct proper sentences....

    durp durp you oaf :)
  • Oct 1, 2009 @ 2:19 am | delete
i think it's very telling that his only detractors here use the strawman argument of saying that he has no validity solely because he makes a lot of money, lol

My wonder in their minds just not how much money a person is allowed to make for their arguments to have validity?

If you want to say why a man is wrong about the issues. The new debate him on the issues. You do not come up with silly ad hominem attacks based on that person's financial welfare, the issues are all that matter, not how much money that person makes.

Frankly, seeing these people lecture about not being able to think for themselves is hilarious considering that they all use the same argument.

Opponents should do themselves a favor and actually debate beck on the issues rather than simply trying to back door vilify the man because he's getting paid to do what he loves, inform the people.

Thanks for including my page on The 9-12 Project. You have a good page here on his new book.

This is a very good debate, Glen is a great patriot, he understents politics and history, just putting out head in sand and turning the back to our problems, it is not going to solve any problems we have.
    To find solutions we need:
    1) To know and admit that we have problem
    2) To learn from history
    3) To be honest with ourselves
    4) To be involved, but remain positive, creative and truthful
This is an excellent lens fav 5*

Always on top of things, Susan! I'm featuring this lens on my Squid Angel Diary this week.

How excellent! Facts do cause folks to stumble over ther own glittering generalities. I like to use a phrase of Joyce Meyer's, "I think I'm right but I could be wrong" and sometimes make it my own with, 'I think I'm right but YOU could be wrong'. Thank you for the introduction to Glenn Beck!

I've always favored facts and logic over catchy slogans. I'll add this to the end of my very long "to read list." Perhaps enough frustrating contacts with idiot swill make me move it forward. In fact, in some ways I may be an idiot, maybe it should move to the front of the list and learn something. Thanks
