Almost half a billion dollars worth of Arizona unclaimed property coming from financial assets people have lost track of. Residents feeling the pinch of the recession might come-up with something after doing an online unclaimed money search.

Over $600 million worth of Arizona unclaimed property money sitting in the State Treasury. A $3.5 million of this comes from unclaimed tax refunds belonging to 4,000 residents.
Aside from abandoned bank accounts, forgotten stocks and uncashed checks, various jewelry, old mementos, antiques and the like are also turned-over to the State as AZ unclaimed property from deposit boxes.
"A lot of this stuff comes from the parents [who] are deceased and the kids find out about it perhaps by seeing it on a website." says AZ Department of Revenue spokesman Dan Corcoran.
Scott Brittenham was recently reunited with his AZ unclaimed money. It turned-out he had a sizable account.
"It was about a little over $7,500. I was surprised," says the lucky recipient of the lost money he didn't even know he was missing. "I was surprised there was that much money that the state has possession of and I didn't know about it."
