Arlene Blum is a mountain climber who led the first women teams to successfully climb Mt. McKinley and Annapurna, and she was the first American woman to attempt Mt. Everest.

Arlene Blum Biography 

Arlene Blum (born 1945) is an American mountaineer. She is best known for her all-woman ascent of Annapurna (I), a climb that was also the first successful American ascent. She also was a deputy leader of the first all-woman ascent of Mount McKinley and was the first woman to attempt to ascend Mount Everest.

In May 2008, Chinese mountaineers took the Olympic torch where it had never been before - to the peak of the world's highest mountain.

Among the 19 climbers was a Tibetan woman named Cering Wangmo, who held the torch when the team reached the summit. Other team members unfurled Chinese and Olympic flags.
