Army Birthday Party Ideas

Boys (and Girls) love Army Parties!

My son loves all things military, so we decided to have an Army party to celebrate his eighth birthday.  A military birthday party is a fun and easy party.  With a few boys, some "boot camp" training and a little bit of rough and tumble, you too can throw an easy party that the boys will all be talking about.  It's a great do-it-yourself party that doesn't require too much work.  As each boy arrived at the party, we outfitted him with an Army helmet and a dog tag.  We also invited the boys to wear any camouflage clothes they had to the party.

Make an Awesome Tank Birthday Cake

A tank cake is easy to make. Bake two cakes--one in a 9x13 pan and the other in a loaf pan. When they are cool, put the loaf cake on top of the rectangle. I used brown and green frosting--the brown frosting was chocolate and the green I colored with green and yellow food coloring. I used a cereal straw covered in icing as the gun. For the treads--use oreos as the wheels and pieces of Hershey's chocolate bars for the treads. Simple and everyone loved it. I topped the cake with a plastic army man.

Wouldn't this be a great birthday party for your kid?

Easy Activities and Games

Drills (jumping jacks, push ups, running in place)
Soldier Says (like Simon Says)
Paper Airplane Contest (make and fly paper airplanes)
Obstacle Course
Pin the medal on the soldier
Bomb Pop (sit on balloons and pop them--treat inside balloon)
Rescue MIA soldiers (like an Easter egg hunt--hide plastic army men and have each boy find 6)
Water gun battle (or in cold weather, use water guns to shoot over plastic army men)
Target Practice (bean bag toss at army tank w/ holes cut into it)
Parachute drop (drop plastic paratrooper from atop a stool onto target)
Tug of war
pinata

Pin the medal on the soldier

This game is easy to make! I drew a soldier on a piece of posterboard and cut medals from scrapbooking paper. Put a ball of tape on the back of each medal, find a bandana to use as a blindfold and you're good to go!

Water Gun Battle

My son's party was in mid-November. By then it was a little cold to play with water guns. So as an alternative, I set up lots of plastic army men on the front step and lined the boys up to shoot them over with their water guns. Then the water guns became one of the party favors.

Tank Target Practice

Make your own games and save money! I drew a simple tank on posterboard and cut several holes into it. I made bean bags with squares of felt that I hot glued together and filled with dried beans. I taped up the tank on my wooden drying rank and had a cheap, fun game!

Army Pinata!

Of course every party needs a pinata. I made my own army themed pinata for under $5. You can make a pinata for any party theme. The lens below tells you how.

Help send dog tags to a soldier in Iraq to send home to his or her kids!

100% of Your Donation Delivers Smiles
Help us send dog tags to troops in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan so they can send them to their kids back home!

This is a grassroots effort to show our support for the troops and their families. We tried to think of something we could send Dad or Mom that they could easily send back to their kids. This is something easy to ship and something the kids can hang on to until Dad or Mom gets back home.

Your donation will help send a tag in the appropriate service color to an appreciative service member. There is NO charge to the service member or their family for these tags. As of October 8th, 2009, we have sent 488,203 tags to the troops overseas to send home to their children. Please help us make a difference and thank our troops by putting a smile on their kid's faces!
