The GI Bill is actually several education programs which are administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). One such program, known as the Post-9/11 GI Bill, is the centerpiece of military education benefits. GI Bill programs are designed to help active duty, Guard and Reserve servicemembers, veterans and their families earn a degree, certification, vocational training or attend trade school. Although programs differ depending on the users status, participants can receive a monthly benefit which can cover up to 100 percent of their tuition, fees, books, and living expenses - tax-free. That's right, the GI Bill is a tax-free benefit.

As of October 1, 2010 your monthly GI Bill payment rate will increase 4.2% to $1,426 making your total benefit worth over $51,300.

The Army's Loan Repayment Program (LRP) is a special enlistment incentive that the Army offers to highly qualified applicants at the time of enlistment. Under the LRP, the Army will repay up to $65,000 of a soldier's qualifying student loans.
