Aromatherapy for dogs is a very popular way of treating your best friends sicknesses and behaviours. Just like in humans, certain essential oils help dogs feel and behave better. The healing powers of aromatherapy have long been used in treating and helping people with many physical and mental ailments. Now your dog can benefit to from these healing powers. Research has shown that many dogs being treated with aromatherapy have shown significant improvement in their physical or behavioural ailment.

Aromatherapy in dogs can be used to treat aggression, anxiety, skin irritations, fleas and many more issues. Certain scents/aromas are used for particular cures. Here are some treatments you can use for your dog...

Aromatherapy For Dogs - Treating Aggression

Cure Aggression In Your Dog With Aromatherapy

Sandalwood or Ylang Ylang are commonly used to treat aggressive dogs. Both these essential oils have a calming effect and allow your dog to be more at ease. These oils can be applied by either using a diffuser or by massage. Make sure to always use 100% blend essential oils on your dog.

Massage Method:

Add one drop of essential oil to to 1/2 tsp. carrier oil, such as jojoba oil, sweet almond oil or olive oil. Massage into hairless or least hairy area of the skin, such as the armpit, groin or inner thigh. Massage gently for 3 - 4 mins. Do not apply undiluted essential oil directly to your pet's skin.

Diffuser Method:

Add a few drops of essential oil to the water in a diffuser. Leave your dog in the room with the diffuser for about 30 mins, twice daily, while the oil is evaporated into the air your dog will breath it in.

Treat Skin Irritations In Your Dog With Aromatherapy

Tea Tree Oil is commonly used to treat skin irritations in your best friend. Tea Tree Oil has a soothing effect on the dog's skin thus decreasing irritation and any further discomfort. This essential oil can be applied by diffuser, massage or by mister. Always use 100% blend essential oils on your dog!

Chamomile, lavender, lemon, neroli or marjoram oils are used to help alleviate anxiety in dogs. It is always best just to use one or the other essential oil and not to combine oils together due to dogs having a very strong sense of smell. If one doesn't work effectively try the other. These oils are useful in relaxing your dog during stressful moments like thunderstorms, travel etc. These essential oils can be applied effectively through massage. Always use 100% blend essential oils on your dog.

    Hi, thanks heaps for the welcome! Cats are cool too... but are real sensitive to certain essential oils and scents, so make sure you seek advice before trying aromatherapy on your cat friends :)
