Improve Your Home's Energy with Feng Shui Fragrances Based on the Elements

Feng shui sees all things as originating from one of five element groups: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, or Wood. The idea is to balance all the elements so that not too much or too little of one particular element is present in a space so that the room does not feel stuffy or oppressive.

Purposefully choosing items to fill the home that use the colors and materials most representative of the five elements helps us produce this balance. The use of elements doesn't stop there, however. We can also use scents to add an element to a space.

Feng Shui Elements

meanings and associated colors

The most basic feng shui tool is a bagua map. Generally, bagua map is used to determine which parts of an area represent various aspirations. Each aspiration is represented as a section on the bagua and has a color, element, and shape associated with it. By adding and subtracting these colors, elements, and shapes, we can create an environment more conducive to one or more chosen aspirations.

WATER - spirituality, reflection, meditation, YIN energy
WOOD - intuition, luck, confidence, and trust
FIRE - emotions, strength, assertiveness, dominance, pure YANG
EARTH - harmony, balance, and groundedness
METAL - mental activity, thought, and creativeness

Elemental Fragrances

In the same way, we can use elemental aromatherapy, fragrances representing the five feng shui elements, to enhance our environment.

You can use these and other fragrances to represent the feng shui elements:

WATER - saltwater, bamboo, lotus, seaweed
WOOD - sandalwood, musk, ginseng, mint, ceder, other woods
FIRE - amber, cinnamon, pepper
EARTH - patchouli, mandarin and citrus, florals, and vanilla
METAL - cool mints, snow, and crisp florals
