Let Your Fresh Cut Flowers Live Longer ~ Ikebana Vases
Ranked #2,571 in Home & Garden, #31,567 overall
Ikebana style vessels are a great alternative to traditional tall vases.
They are called flower frogs, the vendor told me, and continued to show me how they work.
Ikebana vases are a wonderful way to display your fresh cut flowers and let them live longer.

What else have Kenzans been called throughout the past?
is it a frog?
Basically the flower frog is a small plate with spikes that hold the stem of the flower upright. These can be put in vases made of metal, glass, ceramic, and other materials. The important part is called the Kenzan, the block with pins or needles sticking up to hold the stem in place. It is located at the bottom of the vase usually attached, with floral clay or an adhesive, so the weight of the flowers doesn't make them fall over.Flower frogs have been called different names over the years they have been called:

FLOWER BLOCKS
FLOWER PINS

FLOWER BRICKS

How To Attach The Kenzan In The Vase
*****Attaching the kenzan to the bottom of your vase*****
* First, you need to pick out a vase that you like, make sure it is the right size for your needs.* Second, you need to pick the right kind of kenzan for the flowers you will be using. You don't want to use a large one with small flowers for example. Pick one based on the vase you plan on using as well.
* Third, you can get creative and add elements like rocks to your clear vases to make them more your style. It also helps stablilize smaller vases from falling over.
* Fourth, you need to secure the kenzan to the bottom of the vase with florist clay or a waterproof adhesive. Florist clay can be found on this page to give you an idea of what it is. Wait for the clay to dry and bond before you use the vase with water.
* Fifth step is now here, you're ready to arrange your flowers based on what kind of kenzan you are using.
* Make sure the stems can reach water and they are securely in place.
* ANSWER : Flowers placed in kenzans live longer than in traditional tall vases, much longer.********** A fresh cut flower will usually last three weeks or longer in an Ikebana vase.**********
