This gallery presents you with pieces of artwork that are guaranteed to make you think and reflect on your construct of the world around you. Ugliness is beauty as much as beauty is ugliness.

Nick likes using brushes, paint, pens, paper, ink, toe nails, whatever tickles his fancy to create his ideas. Come to think of it, if it can make a mark of some kind, then he will probably use it!

Short films by Nick Griffin

01: The Diary of an artist with Bipolar

The beginning of a series of videos showing the true me. How I think and feel depending on the mood I am in. It will at times be confronting and emotional, but it will always be honest. Nick :-)

The Tourmented Mind

A short film by Nick Griffin while recorded in a state of anxiety. Undetectable by those around, and calm on the outside, anxiety can be a crippling condition. This film trys to capture how I feel.

The Amazing Human Mind

Screenprint

There is nothing more amazing then the complexity of the human mind. It illustrate such a complex thing is near impossible, but in this piece I have tried to capture the mystic and fascination that surrounds the human mind. This design is incredibly intricate and has been illustrated by hand leaving a very complex t-shirt design.

Stress

Why?

Consumption of my worth
Destruction of my belief
I lie here withering
Sickness within my mind
Reflection on my self
Pressure of this earth

Questions spinning wildly
I am a puppet
A tool been hurt
No direction with no belief
A man without subjection
A creature defiant of existence

Perspectives all twisted
Raging anarchy of my identity
Faithless and bent flesh
A shell nothing more

My heart splits
Aches and stretches
Beat beat beat no more
friends and family dispell
Faith and perception
no more

Aristocrat

Canvas Painting

In this piece I wanted illustrate the life of an aristocrat. The image is meant to be bright and bubbly, and give the feeling of a bottle of Champagne and Sunday drive in the country.

The Consumerator

Mixed Media

The green monster of consumerism is a reflection on today's obsession with continually purchasing and consuming the world around us. The human consumer will stop at nothing to fulfill its every wish. It will devour what ever it likes without to much concern for consequence of its action. As long as it has whatever it needs to satisfy itself, it is content. Unfortunately this monster, despite what it accumulates, it is never happy, but rather it is bloated with false perceptions of pleasure.

Torn Between Two

Painting Canvas

The normal feelings around being torn are negative, but in this piece I wanted to challenge that concept. While people can often be torn between two places of opposite poles, if managed right the situation can be harmonious and beautiful for both parties. This piece is designed to illustrate this.

Little Red

Pen & Ink

The classic story of Little Red Riding Hood was always a childhood favourite of mine. This is an illustration capturing what could possibly be a story about some very dark themes. Was there really a wolf, or was Little Red the menace all along? Perhaps it was all in her mind. The menacing trees in this image suggest more to the story.

Bold Untainted

Decay

Mixed Media

How do you take something completely unattractive like littered paper, and turn it into something of beauty. It sounds like it probably can't be done, but in this piece that is exactly what I have tried to do. This image was made from littered paper soaked in water, dimembered and then attached to paper and stained. The concept behind this artwork challenges us to review what we normally view as ugly. Maybe you still find the site of this paper repulsive, but maybe not. Perhaps your views have shifted on what is seen as ugly and beautiful.

The Condemned

Home Improvement

Photography

No matter how much colour we try to put into our lives, the items we accumulate, the improvements we make to our physical environment, a lot of us still feel incomplete like a blank canvas. This piece is designed to express this. The bright colours of material possessions that surround our everyday life contrast dramatically with the blank and unassuming hand that we use to create our own world.

Feeling Blue

Mixed Media

Over the past few weeks I have been on a bit of a roller coaster of emotions. Mania and manic several times a day in combination with periods of nausea. This is the first of three images that I have created throughout the past few weeks. As thoughts came into my mind I would write the words down that I saw in my head no matter how strange. I would then inscribe these on either the manic depression, nausea, or anger canvas. The three main things that have been revolving in my mind for the past few weeks.

Communication

Vector

My interpretation of communication, or at least what happens most of the time, a voice in a crowd trying to be heard amongst everyone elses conversations. Just screaming out to be noticed.

Automatic Love Machine

Vector

Have you been getting enough love? Is your balance high? If not maybe you are waiting to get some more love from the people around you so you can deposit in your bank of good will, the love bank. There are many different transaction the love bank will accept; hugs, thank yous are just a few of the payment options.

Breakfast

Photography

This image is designed to reflect on what a lot of us are eating in the mornings as opposed to what we should be eating. How many people take vitamin sumplements, pills and other medications with their breakfast in the morning? We are truly becoming a drugged up society, and it seems to start as soon as we wake up, followed by our morning coffee and then more throughout the day. Over stimulated people in an overly stimulated world.

The Master

Pen & Ink

This incredibly unattractive critter was once a celebrated butler to a family living in the remote areas of Cocowa. Unfortunately due to the global financial crisis the family had to cut back on luxuries, like the butler. He can now be seen wondering aimlessly around suburban backstreets.

Break Time

Photography

It has now become a social phenomena. Coffee with a friend is one of the most common social interactions in today's Western society. This piece captures what it is all about. Can this beverage really have such an impact on our lives? How much coffee do we really drink in our life time? If we took coffee away what else would we do to meet up with our friends, "lets meet for tea?"

Consumption of the soul

Sunflower

Typeface

A sunflower is a unique and mathematically perfect flower, not unlike the typographic alphabet. This piece draws the link of the beauty between the shape of a Sans Serif typeface and the structure of nature.

Not A Greeting Card

Mixed Media

Everyday we are bombarded with all kinds of stress, emotions and pressures. While some of it trivial, over time it can build up, and can often display on our face as we go about our everyday life. This piece takes that one step further. Could it be that all this built up pressure is turning us into paranoid individuals? We seem to think that by sending each other greeting cards at Christmas that somehow we can convince each other everything is sweet and dandy. This greeting card tells it how it is in a cold bitter kind of way.

After the fight

Dead man walking

Photography

The guard fetches you from your cell that you have been spending the last thirty years in. It is your last day. He shackles you and escorts you along the catwalk. This is a familiar sight to you as this is the only sunlight you have ever seen in a long while. Better make the most of it, there won't be any where you're going. Hang mans tower awaits, your torment has reached its end. It will all be over after a quick snap of your neck, and then it's lights out for you.

His Brief Case

Screenprint

I have often wondered why a brief case is called what it is. Originally I had thought it was a reference to the law society, but as I examined it further I came up with my own hypothesis. Indeed, a brief case is where a man, or a women, keeps all there most important assets. This piece communicates this, quite literally.

Chicken & The Egg

Pen & Ink

Is it a chicken, or is it an egg? I am sure you have often heard people ask, what came first the chicken or the egg. Actually, the answer is neither. The egg and the Chicken co-existed as one creature. Could have it looked like this?

No Body Loves Me

Photography

Do you ever feel like this when you walk into work on a Monday morning? I sure do. Now you can give your boss a little hint by giving him this card. No longer will staff abuse go unnoticed.

Can't Help Staring

Pen and ink

Sometimes we claim we "can't help but stare". Are our eyes really their own entity or separate being? Do they work together to transport us to visions that they want us to see, or are we in control of them. This piece pokes fun at the excuse that we sometimes use to avoid being questioned for our inquisitive nature.

A Wet Package

Pen & Ink

This slippery sucker can often be found in large mail centres in capital cities. On occasions you may find little traces he has left behind on your mail. He finds bills and other letters from other corporate bodies particularly tasty, and is often the reason why peoples debts never arrive in the mail.

Reflection

"Children are born artists, but are trained by adults to be devoid of creativity". Nick Griffin

What I want you to do.

Explore your creative side. We are extremely good at doing this when we are young, but as we get older we seem to loose touch with this innocent side of ourselves. Relink with it today! Do something completely spontanious! Paint your self and role around on some paper. Blow bubbles in the sink with some food dye and take a photograph of it. Go outside onto your back porch and do a chalk drawing, then share the pride of your work with the rest of the world!
