Art Deco
Art Deco arose in the 1920s and continued through its heyday in the 1930s well into the 1940s. It had no single founder and a variety of influences including cubism and African art. Vibrant and energetic, it proved so popular that it was soon applied to almost everything - from architecture and furniture to textiles and jewelry.
After the drabness of the war years nothing could be more welcome than the brightly colored designs and exciting shapes of Art Deco.
The most noticeable characteristic of the Art Deco style was the geometric patterns, used in both painted designs and shapes, many of which were based on angular lines.
Art Deco style, particularly in furniture, art and ceramics is extremely popular today and many pieces are becoming highly collectable as well as a good investment for the future.
