Welcome to my blogging (or lensing, if you will) debut! I plan to talk about life just as it comes at me, as well as when I feel on top of it. I'm sure there are people out there just like me who are artistic types, raising children and working on making a living and a difference in this world. I will certainly look forward to some feedback as I am still a novist, please be patient with me!
I am a bit of a dreamer that wants to make the world a better place, starting with my own little space here on earth. Since I was a little girl I've always wanted to be an artist, and to help and motivate others to be all that they can be.
Art has this unusual ability to break down barriers, as far as language, and inhibitions etc. I was given many opportunities to express myself with the visual arts growing up. My parents always told us we could become whatever it was we wanted to become, and I of course believed them. I love to draw, paint, put things together, and call it art. I had the honor of studying for one year at an east coast university when I realized that I had hardly any life experience. So I left that year with flying colors according to my teachers, but It would be another 10 years before continuing my art education, this time in Europe, adding to it, an art education degree.
I've also always wanted to have children. Well, I ended up starting a bit late, like in my 30's, and did all of the research I could to find out how I could best raise and educate my child(ren) when they arrived. I found myself absolutely drawn to home education and had this reinforced with every encounter I had with the public school system, both in my country and my adopted country in which I lived at the time. I was pushed over the edge when my first child was born and he appeared, at least to me, a little different than the norm. He was so full of the lust for life that didn't make any sense for a life barely a few weeks old. This little creature was lifting his head and making strong eye contact from day one! He was carrying on little conversations with us on the changing table that just floored us. A friend of mine sealed the deal by saying, "you have one of those types.." She explained that my child was similar to her own who were very curious and ready to learn and explore at every turn.
I of course thought that all children were just so, and then after observing and doing the normal mother comparing game, I realized that she could be right and that I might need to give him some extra attention. I began at that moment to use every moment as a teachable moment, which was from some of the content I had read in my earlier research about home education or homeschooling as it is sometimes referred to.
There were so many different styles to choose from as far as home education was concerned I was a little lost and joined some lists that could answer my questions as the arose. It wasn't too long before I read about John Holt, and unschooling which had some appeal to me since I felt that I was bent that way, but I also had a need for showing, and proving that my child was indeed learning and retaining information.
My son is 8 years old and in the 4th grade. My daughter is 4 years old and in Kindergarten. I am naming grades because that is the system we have been conditioned to use. because if I really broke it down, They would probably both be in 4 different grades simultaneously. For instance, my daughter would be in kindergarten for reading, and first grade for math, or second grade for language usage, and maybe third grade for science. Well over the years I have learned alot, but I am only scratching the surface. I am hoping by keeping a blog, I will also make my journey clearer. I think it was a man called Nehemiah that said to write the vision down and make it clear. So that's what I hope to do over a period of time, with this blog.
Probably the shakiest part of my blog will be how to make a living while doing what I love to do and how to do it so that nothing will be missing or lacking from my children's education, and my home life. It is important that I don't only create jobs for myself, but that I can grow businesses that can be sustained, even when I am off travelling and learning with the children, which is an important part of my educational point of view. When I return I will write about some of the ways I hope to make this happen and how I expect it to work. I suppose I will have to write about my struggles with organization because of my desparate need for it, in order to accomplish my many big plans, with art, education, and making money.
Thanks so much for reading, I hope to share some insights, hopes and fears with you, praying that in the end you will walk away refreshed and encouraged from reading...Love and Peace to you.
I'm Extremely Excited, and Equally Encouraged!
Will this be the vehicle to get me to where I want to go?

For a while now, I had been feeling unsettled and needy for some extra income to give our family more peace of mind financially speaking. We want to not only be able to take care of our own needs and wants, but also those of others who are worse off than we are. I know God provides, but sometimes it is hard to remember when we are so fully aware that 1-3 months without salary could cause several of us to lose our homes.
I am teaching art and doing other artsy things. This is growing and I love the work. The only problem is that the rate of growth is not quite fast enough to see a large enough dent to our monetary deficit.
It is no wonder that my interest was peaked when I went to pick up some Home school supplies that were posted on the local Craig's list, and in conversation with the lady ended up talking about a healthy nutritious juice product, and also the business part.
Now I'm no health nut, but I do try to keep our family eating healthy as a rule as opposed to the exception. This lady, her name is Janet, started telling me about people she knew that saw a difference after drinking 1-2oz in the morning, and 1-2oz before bed. She then handed me a bottle of juice to try for myself. I did so, for about a week. At first I didn't even notice that my achiness that I usually woke up with was gone, until the 2nd day or so. Then I stopped taking it for a day to see if there would be a difference, and sure enough! I was sore and achy in my joints again. This stuff had my attention. I actually liked the taste, but had to get used to the texture of the 19 different fruits, the most important of which was the açai berry that has gotten so much attention lately. In any case I immediately thought of friends and family that I thought could definitely benefit from the "healing" properties in this mixture. One is not allowed to say that food or diet can heal, I'm not sure about that, all I know is that I was achy and now I'm not.
Speaking of which, just today I realized that I finally have some major relief from the pain in my neck I had been carrying since last December when I went to do some recreational, literal bouncing off the walls(it was a place with trampolines on the walls and the floors). Some how during the first practice fall they require of you in order to see if you know how to fall correctly, I injured my neck and it hasn't stopped hurting until this week! I was in the car tonight when I had to turn my head rapidly and had no pain. I was pleasantly surprised and wondered if this was the work of this juice I have been drinking since about 2.5 weeks.
All this is splendid of course, but when I left a bottle after sharing some with my family and especially my grandmother (who seems constantly riddled with aches and pains), When I saw her a couple of days later, my grandmother raved about the black juice, as she dubbed it, and how it alleviated some aches she was having across the upper part of her back. For me that was good news, because it meant that this stuff was going to be able to help my grandmother!!!
SO, that's it right, here is great stuff that I can share with people I know and see them feel better and stay healthier. They say that the 2-4 oz a day is like eating the 4-5 FDA suggested servings of fruit a day! I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to get all that in, anyhow, you can hear more about what it does or can do for you health wise here: http://www.realhealthanswers.com/features/acai-berry-testimonies.htm
In the meantime there is a financial element that is just staggering! This is what got me thinking that I may need to try something out of my league a couple of weeks ago I went to a juice tasting with Janet, and listened to a young man talking about it, and how it had changed his life. He didn't have such an exciting background, as far as being qualified to make a ton of money. What I was told though, was that he has been in the business for just over a year now, and that this time last year he was only making $50,000 dollars a year. According to Janet's husband he is currently making upwards of $500,000 dollars a year! How many of you know that even $50,000 dollars would be a welcome income for working only part-time?! So, yes, I am excited and wanted to share this with you all because I know you can benefit, and I don't want anyone mad at me for not letting them in on what is happening. I'll be investigating this from the inside out. :-)
Much Love and Peace!
Psalm 1 is rather inspiring...

This is a tiny little illustration I made a while back in reference to Psalm 1. It is a very visual Psalm, and this was my interpretation of what I "saw".
A little about me
I love people and find absolute pleasure in learning about them. I was born in the USA, NYC to be exact. My favorite city is probably still Manhattan, although I still have lots of travelling to do to be sure. I love painting and drawing, taking pictures, making something out of nothing. I enjoy cooking, although I don't feel I am organized enough to make a meal that takes more than the usual 30 minute prep time. I love hanging out with my 2 children, and seeing them learn grow and blossom into strongwilled but respectful and fun to be around individuals. I am married and I love my very practical husband, opposites do indeed attract! I have a very unique and wonderful family relational bond with my parents, and siblings that I truly cherish and try not to take for granted, as I am learning how rare it is. I am always looking for ways to encourage others to be the best them they can be, including myself. I have of late decided it is time to put the entrepreneurial spirit deep within me, to work! This not so very easy since "I'm a lover not a fighter" if you know what I mean. I do however have a number of goals that have motivated me to get cracking! If you follow this lens, you'll get to learn what some of these are, and how they get fulfilled bit by bit. Art, Home Education, and Making a Living in the news

Art Smart Studio
"Where You Get Smart With Art!"

Besides making art, theres nothing more rewarding than teaching it to others and having them actually get it. I have been teaching art for now over 10 years professionally, in a variety of venues with people from all backgrounds and ages.
I recently started a studio of my own in the DC area and am looking forward to many years of motivating aencouraging several groups of students on towards reaching their visual goals.
In the last 2 weeks of January I am having half price days for regular and potential students to come and and check out the studio for themselves, without the commitment to a regular 4 week period. People can come and on one or more days.
I will be teaching my "Mimic the Masters" classes, where students choose a famous piece of art that they would like to inspire them into a work of their own.
As well as a new class that I am calling "The Drawing Wishlist" Where the students name a few things that they have always wanted to draw, and they get some guidance and insight and fast and easy tricks to help them draw like never before.
check out the website: www.art-smart-studio.com The updates will arrive there shortly. In the meantime, there is a link for contact if you are interested and someone will contact you asap.

Inauguration Day is on it's way
I'll be watching from home
Believe it or not, I did not vote for Barack Obama. I know, I'm a brown-skinned woman. I voted my convictions and that was important for me. Now, though that Obama is president, he has my undivided attention right now, as I will be praying for him and his family as often as i can.Of all of the jobs available, I would not have chosen this profession for so many reasons, but I am glad that there are people out there that want to make a difference.
If you love your country let's pray for our president and his family and the cabinet. There is a cool prayer that I came across today called O.N.E. an acronym for One Nation Empowered. You can use the prayer below to pray, especially if you're not sure how. I will put the link just under here.
Prayer for Obama and our Nation
One Nation Empowered
- O.N.E.
- If you're not sure how to pray for our new president and for our nation this one is really in the very least, heart warming and at most very powerful, I hope you will join me, and many others in prayer this inauguration day and onwards.
