My Brick & Marble Faux Finish Studio!

This project was a lot of fun. Having a nice work space, and place to display my artwork was very important to me. A few years ago I turned my mother in-laws, spare room with bare walls and a concrete floor into my own special space. To create and display my paintings, sculptures and the rest of my creations.

Started With The Concrete Floor

Photo after the floor was painted....

Painted Floor Photo

Unfortunately I do not have a pic of the floor before I painted it. But you can imagine it was just a gray, concrete floor.

I used: concrete floor paint of 2 different colors, with a dual roller to give it a marble like finish. Then I varnished the top to give it a shine.

You can purchase the paint in many stores. For this I used a Brick Red and a Tan. I cant remember the actual colors as I did this project about 4 years ago.

The Door Molding

Art Studio Images

To give the door molding and the gray cabinet a brick look I used run of the mill, craft paint. For this part insted of 2 colors I used 3 different colors: red brick, brown and a tan; painting it with a natural sponge and a thin paint brush.

The Lighting

My husband installed the track lighting as shown here, and in the photo above. The fan was there before.

The Furniture

The rest of the walls were primed and painted white. My husband built the chest and table shown in this photo. I covered the top of the chest in cushion and fabric to create seating.

I also made the pillows on the floor using the same fabric. The rest of the furniture I did a wash on to match the chest & table; again using craft paint.

Devider & Extra Hanging Space

Art Studio Picture

The divider shown in the photo on the opposite side of the studio is actually a louver door. It worked great to divide my gallery from my work space.

These doors are very light and mobile. They can be hinged together to create a larger wall as well. I have used these at shows in the past. Hang the work on them using S hooks!

Really cool. I did a similar treatment with my gallery floor which was also a concrete slab though I did mine in nuetral browns and beiges. For years I had people commenting as much about the floor as the art. :) Love all the faux treatments you did in your studio. It looks great.

This was a fun project for sure, your studio is great... doesn't matter how sociable we are, we still need a space in which we can think, concentrate, dream, and work without distraction.
    I love your studio
    To your success
