Winsor & Newton Watercolor Paints are Perfect for Students or Professional Artists
Winsor & Newton watercolor paints are excellent quality paints and I have used them for years. Their colors are bright and clear, and just gorgeous on paper. I love the way the color mixes together, and they make every painting that I have done better.
Winsor & Newton makes two grades of watercolor paints--a student grade and an artist grade. The student grade contains the same pigments that the artist grade does, but are less expensive, perfect for students just learning how to paint.
Since the 1830s, Winsor & Newton artist grade watercolor paints has maintained their reputation of being unmatched for purity, quality, and reliability among professional artists colors throughout the world. Both grades of watercolor paints are available in tubes or pans, and maintain the beautiful colors we have come to expect from an excellent company like Winsor & Newton.
This article reviews the differences between the student grade and artist grade, and recommends different packages for aspiring artists through professional artists.
Winsor & Newton Cotman and Artists' Watercolor Paints
Here is what Winsor & Newton says about their watercolors.Cotman Water Colours are a range of water colours that are made to our normal high quality standards but costs are kept to an economical level by replacing some of the more costly pigments with less expensive alternatives.
The range consists of 50 colours in tubes, which possess good transparency, excellent tinting strength and good working properties, including genuine cadmiums and cobalt. There are also a number of excellent water colour sets available in the Cotman range.
Artists' Water Colour--Since 1832 when Henry Newton and William Winsor introduced the first moist water colours to the world, much of our reputation for supreme quality has stemmed from the Artists' Water Colour range.
Since then Artists' Water Colour continues to be formulated and manufactured according to our founding principles; to create an unparalleled water colour range which offers artists the widest and most balanced choice of pigments with the greatest possible permanence.
Each colour within this wide and balanced spectrum of 96 colours, has been selected and formulated to offer the greatest choice so that artists can use a unique palette that best suits their work.

"Winsor & Newton artist grade watercolors have been my first choice for decades. They offer brilliant color and transparency and remarkable working consistency. I'm confident they will perform beautifully from tube to tube. I've used other brands of fine watercolors, but no other product equals the reliablity, color spectrum, availability and value of Winsor & Newton. Highly recommended for the working professional or aspiring student."

- Boy...you sure cover a WIDE area of topics...I started using winsor & newton's watercolor when I won a watercolor set, from a high school art competition. I've been painting with it since I graduated from art school, that was 30+years ago...I'm a true fan.

- I have a 12 half-pan W&N wooden box set. It's really nice. I do use a selection of Daler Rowney W&N and Kremer. I mostly use watercolour for background washes for journal pages as I am a useless watercolourist! Nice lens.
