Our School play was made so much easier, and cheaper.

Each year we dread the words School Play. But every year it comes up and every year it seems to involve everybody and as many willing parents as we can find. Last year was different we found Koloron.  It made such a difference it's time all teachers knew about it. And no they're not paying me.

You should see what we have done with a roll of Koloron, created a worldwide environmental friendly product for everybody, checkout the samples.

This art fabric saved the day

The picture is taken from the label of a roll of Koloron art fabric. It's like a cross between paper and fabric actually. White and smooth and great to draw and paint on, which is why it's called Koloron no doubt.

Well the picture is more or less what we did with it but instead of Alice we did Puss in Boots. The costumes were simple to make, no stitching and easy to paint. Ted our art coordinator did the difficult bits include a stage backdrop of the Houses of Parliament. He used Koloron for that too.

All the costumes were made of this art fabric cut with scissors and glued with PVA. No fraying as with cotton, and the paint doesn't bleed through the fabric, which is another plus. And it's strong after two performances it was still as good as new. We'll keep them and in a few years bring them out again.

We think Koloron is fabulous and offer the link if you want to research it for yourself.

Things people say

Hello I'm Frank and have been teaching Art for 20 years now. I've always wanted two things, a new idea for teaching that didn't break my budget and the next Monet in my class.

Creative teaching for creative kids

Because products need to deliver big profits to retailers many worth while ideas never make it to the shelves of our stores or the pages of teaching catalogues. Those that do are often a lot more expensive than they would be if you got them direct from the manufacturers. So starting here and now we want to be a channel of alternative supply. The makers of things to the users of things. Real resources for real Art teachers on a budget.

But it's not just products, ideas are resources too. Teaching doesn't get any easier and ideas that help kids to learn and that encourage involvement have to be good ideas worth sharing.

Things people do

The Street Party Table Cloth

Here's a clever idea. We had a street party and were lucky with the weather. In July 07 our neighbours celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary so we decided to put on a do for the street. It was great but the thing that will live in our memories most was the table cloth.

We brought some Art Fabric and covered one long table we made from trestle tables borrowed from the village school. It was 24ft x 4ft. The fabric covered the lot and we gave everybody marker pens to write straight onto the cloth. And they did, they wrote about the street and about Fred and Olive who have lived there for nineteen years. They did little drawings, signed their names and left their best wishes, every bit of the cloth was covered by the end of the Party. We put the cloth on the wall in the village hall, still there, some how it reminds you more of the occasion than the photos we took.

Any one thinking of doing the same may want to know what we used. It was Koloron and we go it from Berol the art suppliers for about £25.00. I think Ebay sometimes have it or you can Google it. Good luck, if you do it, tell me how you get on.

Now, here is an idea that could save money

Graffiti problems need Graffiti answers

Some people call it Street Art, others graffiti, either way it is here to
stay. Some of it can be really good, trouble is who wants it permanently
displayed on their wall? In Portugal recently I found this work of Art. You have
to say it's really good. We have found a compromise, it's called Koloron Art
Fabric. Its a bit like paper but a hundred times tougher. It comes on rolls 5ft
x 30 ft. We paste it on walls. The kids paint on it and we peel it off after a
few weeks. We like it because we get our school wall back and the kids like it
because they get to roll it up and keep it. We buy a new roll of Koloron and the
whole thing starts again. Great.

Here's a link if you want to do the same.

Cheap Scenery

Two years ago we found Art Fabric and now all our stage productions use nothing else. It was budget that got us looking. We have an Art Teacher who has grand ideas but no grand budgets.
Art Fabric is inexpensive, about £25.00 for 5ft x 30ft, its light weight and very tough. We stretch it from ceiling to stage and he gets going with a big brush and emulsion paint. So far we have had the City of London, a Greek coastline and the 'Hall of the Mountain Kings'

When done these back drops roll up small for storage or sometimes we lend them to a school in Manchester we know. Koloron comes from BEROL.
