"Scales" -- an ongoing series
I feel the most relaxation and peace when I am drawing. I am drawn to deeply ornate linework paired with vibrant colors. I love organic, nature imagery and incorporate it into my art frequently.
My work contains a lot of the same imagery (what I like to call "scales", because it looks like a bunch of little scales), through I am trying to constantly stretch my imagination and come up with new ways to use it so I don't get stuck in the same routine.
You can purchase original pieces and reproduction prints at my etsy shop.

Overgrown
This was the piece that started it all -- the scales series was born! To date, it is still one of my more popular works and reminds a lot of people of henna, due to the intricate linework and burnt sienna ink color. Bird & Scales no. 2
This piece originally started as a small ACEO. I liked it so much that I created a larger version (hence, no. 2). It has a bright aqua and scales background with a lovely hatch and stipled drawing of a bird rendered in marker and colored pencil. Definitely one of my favorite pieces! Waves of Dragon
This piece combines my love of little U shapes with my fondness of Japanese style dragons (with my own spin of course... I am so Norwegian). It's called Waves of Dragon because It's body along the bottom looks like waves. It's rendered in lovely watercolor and marker in grays, blue-grays, reds, yellows and oranges for an overall calming affect. Spring Dance
This piece is going to be on a set of a Canadian feature film called "Make it Happen" due for release this year (2008), which is currently in Post-Production.It's also one of my more popular pieces do to it's vibrant "happy" feeling.
symphony on the beach
This piece is very calming. Compared to a lot of my other pieces, it may feel a bit unfinished, but I purposefully left a lot of white space to help carry the peaceful feeling that the colors evoke. fecundity series no. 3
These are all mini art pieces with a similar color scheme and content in which I call the "fecundity series". These works are heavily inspired by my love of textiles and fabric, and my secret (not anymore!) desire to make fabric designs. fecundity series no. 6

This work is unique because the scales are so large -- normally they are very small. However, since this is part of a series, I am working on a few more that are similar to this. I called it "mandala scales" because I was very inspired by the beautiful and unique mandalas found in indian and other eastern cultures. Peacock no. 2
This piece started out as a smaller version which I eventually made larger. I am just fascinated by peacocks -- their feathers are so beautiful (though I hear the creatures themselves are a little on the dumb side... I suppose you could say the same for humans though, right? ha ha ha) -- I just love to incorporate them into my art, and plan on making more peacock themed pieces in the future. Koi and Flowers
I started doodling these flowers on all manners of paper that I could get my hands on and knew they just had to incorporate them into something. They seemed a little lonely all by themselves, so I gave them a little fish to play with them. Thoughtful
This piece features very subtle and soothing colors in taupe, red, orange, blue, yellow and green. It's similar to the mandalas, except more floral-like. I often include shapes such as these in my scales pieces, but refrained from putting any actual scales in it. Fiesty
I called this piece Fiesty simply because of the color palette... it seems fiesty, doesn't it? The beautiful plums draw a rich contrast with a kick of yellow, red, orange and green. the lotus no. 1
I wanted to create a piece with a very nuetral color scheme in metals: beiges, tans, taupes, golden-esque colors with some pewter, blues and grays, with a single white stylized lotus on top. the lotus no. 2
This is a different take on the lotus -- instead of using "money" inspired colors, I stuck with the golden/tan colors and added a pop of color with lavender, yellow and mint green. Spring Dance no. 2
Like it's older brother, Spring Dance no. 2 features the same peppy feeling brought on by using the same vibrant color scheme, however, this time all of the lines are drawn in dots rather than a smooth continuous line which creates a subtle, interesting effect. Citrus Scales no. 3
The color scheme on this series made me think of a circus -- the bright oranges, pinks, yellows, blues and green. New Guestbook
