In Perspective....how often do you hear that in conversation? When I taught in the public school system my husband implemented the KISS idea in my classroom, "Keep it simple stupid"...but I had to adjust the words to "Keep it simple sweetie".  Through out the years of my adult life I have focused to keep things not only simple, but in perspective.

It is so easy to be distracted by problems and situations and we all begin to loose our perspective, being drug into the ring of life.  Teaching art is a creative healing time for me where things fall back into place and priorities align back up to where they should be.  Working with artists both young and old (from age four to age 80) I find the release of all outside stress as our class progresses and things fall into perspective.  Such is life and such is art.

Art to me is a gift given to me by God, or a higher power if you wish.  It is through this spirit and power that creativity blossoms.  When working with young children and young adults it is amazing to witness and be a part of their growth as they freely begin to create with out rules and regulations.  The juices flow and the smiles trigger laughter and ease through out the studio.

Through Painting, drawing, claywork, etc. we evolve bring life IN PERSPECTIVE!  Try it sometime. Sign up for a local art class and allow your creativity to bloom.

A Painting and a Thought a Day

MOUNTAIN RUN ~ Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace

18 x 36 inches
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Contemporary Art for the Home.
Contact me for Pricing or Commission work.

Tuesday, So much to do as I wake from NINE hours of sleep. My large BEVO leaves today for Hill Country. That was the 48 x 72 inch Longhorn Commission piece I did for a decorator out of Florida who was doing a ranch in Hill Country of Texas. BUT in it's place a new canvas of that size arrives to do a similar painting for a collector in Cleburne Texas, Keith...I am ready to start your baby!

Yesterday was a daze as I was so sleepy I functioned through out the day but can't remember much! I know we drove down to Ft Worth to finish up our signatures over the wreck this summer. That is a closed door at last. We were in a unique building near the main old train station for Ft Worth. I spent most of my time pouring over antique photographs of yesteryears.

Today I begin painting again. Inspiration does not take long as I usually cannot wait to pick up a brush and begin working. The Lord provides so much for me to draw upon. I will be using my Meditating Moments today to reestablish balance with in so I have peaceful painting. I hope you are still using that in your life. The resources God provides us are unending. We limit ourselves, he doesn't.

Shalom,
Laurie

Laurie "Elle" Pace

These Links are part of my life....

You might wonder where the ELLE came from in my name. It wasn't from my mom and dad, it was from my husband. My husband's nickname was always his initials, TP, so when I began my website years and years ago, I chose to be LP...or L Pace. Well, I didn't like how that looked, so remembering my French from High School, I chose to use "elle" for She. From there came Elle Pace, aka Laurie Pace.

The Five Graces
Welcome to the Five Graces
Grace: the act of moving and doing with ease; the lack of strife in action; a wondrous way of being.

Gazing upon the artwork of the Five Graces - Debbie Grayson Lincoln, Laurie Justus Pace, Conni Tögel, Diane Whitehead and Mary Joe Zorad - one immediately sees the wonder, the movement, the flow and grace of the finished piece. These five women share as many similarities as they do differences. Their artwork demonstrates a common credibility and commitment to a high standard of workmanship. To speak with any one of the five women reveals a commonality in what inspires them and how they choose to live their lives, with integrity and a commitment to doing their work for a higher cause. Each feels her creative inspiration as a passionate and natural calling.

From strikingly diverse backgrounds - as a daughter of German immigrants, as a Missouri transplantee, from Texas to Indiana - these talented and acclaimed women reached across the country to come together, to offer the world an opportunity to experience the joy of what they create.

There is no shortage of accomplishments among this group of women. An American President and music producer Quincy Jones are among the many who have artwork from this group in their private collections. This group of artists has been published in several national and international magazines, and their work is found in galleries and collections around the world. The artwork takes form in many different mediums and styles, but never fails to embody a common element. Whether it's a watercolor or an oil painting, a French landscape evolving or a horse taking form, the existence of "goodness" is always present in the finished piece of artwork.

Think of these artists, then, as swans, as harbingers of that goodness. For that is what these five uncommon women have in common: the grace to bring their gift to the world with ease and to offer it simply for what it is - the opportunity to experience the purest form of "joy."
Earth Works Art Gallery
This is a FABULOUS Art Gallery in Upper State New York in the Finger Lake Area. I have had my work here for over a year now! There are actually two galleries, one in Penn Yan, NY and one in Geneva, NY. The Five Graces have a show in the Geneva Gallery right now.

Owned by Billie Bauman, she hopes to open a third gallery in Ireland in 2009.
Elle Pace Fine Art Store eBay
Here on eBay you will find a variety of things in my store. Don't know how long this store will last, eBay has raised prices in the store. It is going to be tough on many folks. I have moved many paintings strictly over to Artbyus.com...much nicer folks run that .com.
They actually take care of things and answer emails promptly!
Elle Pace Fine Art Me Page
THE ME PAGE on eBay gives a brief description of who I am and where I have been! See photos from my latest trip with the FIVE GRACES in New York!
Suppose to be back in NY for a second opening but I am debating the opening Aug first or an all day picnic at the McGregor Winery later in the month...all the wine and barbeque chicken you can eat! HUMMM, what would you choose?
Guitar is a major love affair.
My first love was my husband at an early age..but not too far behind was the Alverez Guitar my parents bought me. I had played piano for six years by this time and self taught myself guitar.

In 1982 I began teaching guitar. It was not until 1999 when I decided I wanted to find another one. Until this time my children were well rehearsed in Fire Drills from our home and we practiced weekly. THey took turns being ressponsible for getting my Alverez out of the house. They knew I considered it a fourth child that couldn't walk.

Well, in 1999 that same first love, my hubby, bought me a Taylor 914... I attacked it with a passion using it as I taught. Quite a bit of difference in the neck and the action from that old classical I was accustomed to.

Last year I was in Dave Anderson's ZOO MUSIC in Dallas Texas...the store in Garland. Dwayne the store manager was helping me locate a Larrivee guitar for one of my older teen students. It was a concert size with beautiful inlay. I picked it up and began to fall in love AGAIN. But I had to tell her I found it for her. When I returned to look again, Dwayne handed me another Larrivee...I spent two hours jamming in the sound room trying out different ones...and I left with a new baby in tow.

As a guitar teacher I will now recommend the Larrivee for construction and sound. ALSO would recommend Dave Anderson's ZOO MUSIC.... it is fabulous and worth a trip down memory lane when you visit the stores.

This link is to Larrivee Guitars, drool along as you look and know they sound AWESOME!

ALSO I have a guitar Lens, so you might check out my other lens too!
The Best Place for Art Supplies and Art Advice in Dallas, Texas
Asel Art has been around Dallas for years. I have great respect for this company and the fine products they carry. I even more applaud the manager of the Richardson Store in Dallas, Texas. Jim is FABULOUS.

I must say he rolls his eyes when I come through the door and reminds me that I can always call and they will get my order ready or even ship it to me free...so I don't have to drive the hour to visit him. Sometimes he mutters under his breath to my hubby, "Is she like this at home...always a windwhirl?"

Jim is one of a kind. He has answers, including technical answers, about all of his products. He is well versed on the history of everything he carries as well as possessing immeasurable knowledge about all the mediums and how to use them. Teaching as I do, I usually confront him with several challenging questions and he responds like a pro.

For art supplies and all art questions, You could find NO better place than Asel Art in Dallas. The Richardson Store is on the west access road of Central Expressway just south of Beltline Road.
THE BEST in OIL Paints!
Pushing paint is a love in my life. Ranking just under my wonderful hubby and a close second to my guitar...Painting is a gift and I try to share it.

My favorite paint to work with is Holbein Duo Oils. As a art teacher, I work with these exclusively with my students. Ages range from 4 to 16 in my children's classes. Even my adults have grown to love the thick buttery consistancy of these oils. An even better discovery finds that in the creation of these Duo Oils they use friendly products, no cadmiums at all. You will find with the oils special linseed oil and cleaning products. I use my ivory dishwashing soap...it works great, but I do love the special linseed as well.

I have experimented with other brands of oil/water paints, and nothing comes close to this quality.
BED and Breakfast in Wine Country Upper New York
Unbelievable bed and breakfast run by Patti and John. TRY IT OUT!

Just blocks from the lake, this charming B&B lends itself to total relaxation and lazy days on the front porch. Breakfast was always a treat and getting to know the owners was a pleasant surprise.

They run specials all year round and put up with the FIVE GRACES for almost a week. The house was covered with art supplies, shoes, cameras and empty bottles of wine...but we had a great time!

Give them a call and book a weekend!
Mary Jo Zorad FINE ART of the Five Graces
Mary Jo is part of the fantastic group of five women that I paint with across the country! Here is where she HANGS HER STUFF!!!

She has incrediable talent painting realistic wildlife...wow...immearsurable patience as well.
Conni Togel Original Fine Art of the Five Graces
COLOR is a passion with Conni Togel...she is another woman from our Five Graces. Her love of life and action is clearly present in her work.

Conni's sense of humor carries over in her reknown Sheep paintings. Satire rules as she plays with everyday happenings bringing them to life with her sheep. Often her work reflects the antics of her own sheep that graze in her back acreage!

Color rules in her vivid landscapes, with a touch of thought just crossing into imagination of where this magical place might be!
Cheap Joe's
This is another great place to find supplies and a great company to work with. I personally have not done any of their workshops, but understand they are great! You might try them out.
EMOEA
This is another outstanding group of artists. Fantastic human beings and touched by a gift that is almost indescribable. Each artist in their own way expresses a depth of creativity in their works. Stop by and check each of them out.

About Ellepace

Close your eyes and imagine yourself as a blade of grass. The sun has risen and the early dew of dawn bathes your surface in lightly scented moisture. A slight wind rises out of the east, cooling your skin and causing the dew to break into tiny bubbles across your waving blade. You can feel the warmth of the morning sun breaking across your back and, as you look out at the rest of the yard, you see thousands of glistening diamonds in the field of grass. This sweet reverie is suddenly broken by an explosive noise off to your side, and the earth begins to shake. It is Saturday morning and the lawnmower is on its way.

It is in this manner that Laurie Pace teaches her art students. It is through her own life experiences that she has learned to remove herself from "inside the box," climb out and view the world from a new perspective. Her journey in life has encompassed many careers, from runway model to graphic artist, from musician to singer, from teacher to artist. The greatest artist to influence her life is God. It is His handiwork that inspires the gift to paint.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1952, Laurie was the middle child between two brothers. The family moved to Texas when Laurie was four years old. Early on, probably as a means of self-preservation, she began drawing. She had watched in awe the talent of her oldest cousin, Annette Hampe Callies. Six years her senior, Annette's love of creating served as a catalyst for Laurie to begin drawing. Her first efforts were simple chalk drawings on the neighborhood sidewalks or attempts to capture the images of horses, flowers and dogs from her perch in the backyard mimosa tree. Her mother and father encouraged her progress by providing the necessary tools and supplies to nurture artistic accomplishment. In addition to her self-taught art, she began piano lessons in the second grade, and a few years later taught herself to play guitar.

In junior high school, she met the man that would later become her second husband and the greatest encouragement to her painting career. In high school Laurie was fortunate enough to encounter an art teacher who actually knew which end of the paint brush to hold. She began to experiment with pen and ink, and from there to dabble in the field of fashion design. Professional study opened up new doors and experiences for the budding artist. She donated work to the local PBS to help raise funds for operation. Laurie maintained her focus in the field of art, but teenage years led to runway, television and print modeling in addition to her art, music and dance.

After graduating from Lake Highlands High School, Laurie studied at the University of Texas at Arlington and finished her undergraduate degree in Commercial Art at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. She married a man she met in college and settled into life, spending nineteen years in the piney woods of East Texas. She landed a position with the von Allmen Advertising Agency as head artist, and at the same time renewed her love for art and music by teaching children in the community and forming In Perspective Studio in 1982. Returning to Stephen F. Austin, she began working on her Masters Degree in history and obtained her teaching certificate for the state of Texas. She accomplished this while juggling three children, sports, Boy Scouts, Brownies (replete with cookie sales), and working as a commercial artist. It was her first husband's career that caused the family to move, first to Houston, Texas and shortly after that to Ft. Thomas, Kentucky. Laurie attempted to return to individual art and music instruction, but received very little encouragement or support.

Ready for a life change, in faith and prayer, she headed back to Texas to face a single life with her three children. At a twentieth high school reunion, she once again ran into her junior high sweetheart, Terry Pace. The spark that had failed to ignite so many years before now flamed, and the two were married some months later. They returned to Dallas and began life as newlyweds with three children.

While teaching elementary school helped put bread on the table, it did nothing to feed the creative urges that had been put to simmer on the back burner. Terry suggested Laurie pursue painting again and the family adjusted to a single income. After several months of frustration, she contacted an old friend, Carol Anne ("Ani") Caver, who was living and painting in Maine. Ani encouraged Laurie to "just pick up a brush and get on with it," so she did. A family friend, Julie Roberts, commissioned two pieces for her ranch in Santa Clarita, California. Up to this time, most of Laurie's work had centered on florals or children. Julie's commissions were for horse paintings, and through them Laurie rediscovered her childhood love for horses and animals. This love has been strong enough that Laurie has continued to paint horses, and has donated several pieces to the Double HP Horse Rescue Mission in South Dakota.

In 2002, Laurie and Terry moved to Justin, Texas, where she continued her teaching studio for guitar, piano and art. Her emphasis with her students is on giving back to others with their art. Their gift is from God, she teaches, and it is through this gift that they can touch the lives of many. Some of her original students are art teachers today.

Laurie renewed her friendship with Debbie Grayson Lincoln, an old art buddy from high school, and was able to complete the circle begun by Ani Caver by serving as a mentor to Debbie. Over the past five years, Laurie has taken honors in the American Airlines On My Own Time Art Show, taking first place in professional works on canvas in 2001, 2003, and 2004. She took second place in professional works on canvas in 2002 and 2005, and second place in watercolors in 2004. She has exhibited with the Dallas Committee of the Fine Arts at Northpark in Dallas, Texas in 2001, 2003 and 2004. She continues to donate art to various charities and rescues throughout the United States. Laurie is a member of the American Watercolor Society, Professional Published Fine Artists, and her artwork is collected internationally.

Billie Bauman, owner of Earth Works Art Gallery, discovered Laurie's artwork and added it to her gallery in New York. She then introduced her to Conni Tögel. While Billie felt that the two women were kindred spirits, neither woman expected the instant rapport that came with their first phone conversation… nor the birth, five months later, of a group called the Five Graces.
