Calling All Artists

One way to get your art career established is by entering competitions. Even if you don't win, submitting your best work to carefully chosen art competitions will get your work in front of people who truly love art ~ and may garner a sale or commission as well as fans.

~ The definition of "Art" used here includes fine photography, film, music, handmade jewelry, and graphic design as well as painting, drawing, and sculpture. ~

The Disclaimer

I make no guarantees about the legitimacy of any of the contests found here; it's up to you to use good sense before committing your work, money, and good name.

How To Pick An Art Competition

  • First, read everything you can find about fraud contests ~ and use that knowledge to weed out bad contests.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Consider entering a smaller, more prestigious competition rather than a big, well known contest.
Fame is fine, but wouldn't it make more sense to have your work seen by three collectors than a thousand Looky Lous who'll forget your work as soon as they walk past it?
  • Consider entering a competition "For The Love".
Some charities run competitions for art to feature on their fundraising items, or their letterhead, and can't offer much money to winners, if any. The prestige and karma points (as well as community goodwill) given winners are worth far more than money, however.
