Adventure Racing: Information, Races, and Gear

Adventure racing is a combination of two or more disciplines, including orienteering and navigation, cross-country running, mountain biking, paddling and climbing and related rope skills. An expedition event can span ten days or more while sprints can be completed in a matter of hours. There is typically no dark period during races, irrespective of length; competitors must choose if or when to rest.  Adventure racing is classically a co-ed team sport. Nonetheless, many races permit "teams" of 1 to 4 persons, single-sex or co-ed, and sometimes include age-based categories.

Adventure racing requires individual will, endurance, survival skills, outdoor savvy, and teamwork to be successful. Races that are one-day to two-week expeditions require both day and night navigation through harsh and often challenging terrain.  The sport requires that the racers be well trained in and be equipped for a variety of outdoor sports, have individual drive and the highest team skills..

Adventure racing can be fun and exciting if first-time racers learn about the sport and prepare physically and mentally.

Great adventure guys. One thing I always worry about is my insurance good enough to cover some sort of accident.

Wow! This sounds like a rather extreme sport for the truly dedicated. I love to see the great outdoors - but probably at a more leisurely pace.
