For the 2011 Arthur Soundtrack, how do you even top one of the 80s most pop-tastic signature movie themes, "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" composed by Burt Bacharach as sung by Christopher Cross? So the best that they could do was have Fitz and the Tantrums speed up the song with a stutter tempo.
The stand-out songs are the original music compositions by Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie with two tracks including "When the Sun Goes Down" and Daniel Merriweather's Arthur song collaborations featuring three songs produced by Mark Ronson. With its gorgeous melody and lyrics, Merriweather's "A Little Bit Better" could be 2011's Arthur's Theme song.
2011 Arthur movie's original music score is by Theodore Shapiro who's just about as busy on the marquee as Russell Brand recently with both of their family friendly movies going head to head at the box office. While Brand's movie animated live action movie "Hop" recently debuted, the Shapiro scored movie adaptation of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2" was also playing.
Virtual unknown Greta Gerwig steps out from the wings last co-starring with Natalie Portman in the romantic comedy No Strings Attached to taking on the Liza Minelli role opposite Russell Brand's Arthur. Brand re-teams with the venerable Helen Mirren who he last worked with on The Tempest. Although the movie opens April 8, 2011, the New Arthur Movie Soundtrack cd is not being released until May 3, 2011.

- I have to say, I put off seeing the Russell Brand re-make because I'd loved the orginal one with Dudley Moore so much and I was sure this couldn't be as good. However, I finally saw it recently on a long-haul flight, and I LOVED it! I thought they did an excellent job, and I'll definitely be watching it again. Great lens! :)

- Interested to see that Helen Mirren is doing a bit of gender-twisting (Prospera in The Tempest and playing what was origainlly a male role here in Arthur). Smart too that the original theme gets a work over here. The key ingredient will be chemistry between Russell and Helen - will there be any?
