The trick to article marketing is to gain readership and get people to click on your links.

It all starts with a good title. If you are targeting a specific keyword, make sure the keyword is in the title preferably at the beginning. If you are not targeting a specific keyword, then make sure the title of the article is both specific to the topic and interesting.

You can write titles as straight benefits like "Lose Weight - 3 Steps To A Slim Waist In 30 Days"

Or

You can write them as catchy and playful or defying common wisdom like "How Sleeping An Extra Hour Can Burn Those Extra Pounds"

The body of the article must be relevant to the title and most importantly relevant to what you are selling. It must maintain enough interest to get people to click on your links and drive traffic back to your website(s).

The story itself can be part of your sales presentation. The common mistake people make is assume they know what their customers want.

Example....

A guy walks into a hardware store looking for a 1/4" drill and the salesman goes over all the benefits of the drill and tries to explain why he should buy it. He thinks he can sell the drill, but he is hard selling and doing it the wrong way.

The easier approach is to first and foremost understand that the guy doesn't really want a 1/4" drill. No! He wants a 1/4" hole. So the best approach to sell would be to tell the guy how to make a 1/4" hole and sell the drill in the story. That's more or less what you are doing when writing articles, telling people how to achieve their goal and sell your tools in the process.
