For anyone looking to start a coaching business you know one of the main challenges is client acquisition. By writing articles and including in them a hyperlink directed to your website, this is one strategy to overcome this challenge. The link should be included in what is known as a resource box as this is how you promote your business in articles. Ideally, you want to have the link display as a keyword or phrase for your coaching business. Like this:

"John Smith specializes in performance based coaching for individuals looking to get the most out of their business or life. He is currently offering a personal coaching consultation complementary that you can sign up for on his website."

Personal Coaching 

(The term "personal coaching" in this case would be displayed as a hyperlink because this term is likely what someone searching on the internet for coaching would look for in a search engine.)

When reading the article, some people will be interested in what you have to offer and will click on the link to your website. When you start a coaching business, have something to offer so they can see the value in working with you. Free coaching sessions are one way you can do this. When they sign up for your session, if you have other products for sale, you can promote those also.

Website links are one of the determining factors for search engine rank and position for the keywords and phrases in your market.

So here is how the strategy works as a review. Once you start a coaching business you get clients by writing articles and promote those articles through the various directories. The directories as well as the webmasters that use your article will link back to your website. The resource box you created along with the article promotes your coaching business. So if you get 200 websites to use your article, you get 200 links from those websites to your website.

Keep in mind that the proper use of articles is one of the best strategies for generating traffic to your website. It is also vital to creating backward links for your keywords. These two steps are very important if you want to build a consistent client base when you start a coaching business.
